I would go with the Shure's. If you want alot of low end check out the VMODA LP Customs. They have a nice low end on them and so do the Shure SRH750DJ's. There are tons of headphones with low end extension. Your just asking the wrong forum.

Thanks man, I think I know what you mean. Most people probably use the headphones for their actual intended use. Ie mixing and monitoring, I'm just looking for a loud n clear set with some low end. Lastly some comfort and over the ear type so it's not screaming at everyone around me lol.

Id definitely check out the VMODA's also. They were nice when I had a set. Built like tanks, stylish, customizable colors and plates, removable cord, very soft leather ear pads.

Yea I just read your review on them actually. Some of the songs like Styx is something I would listen to to test out some headphones. Too bad you don't still have them, I'd pay for you to mail them to me so I could hear them lol.

I guess the OP has ducked out. Haven't heard from em in a while.

If money were no concern I would have the Beyer T1 Tesla by now. Reterminated balanced xlr with pure ofc cables. But that's about a $1800 setup. Maybe Santa will bring em this year.

It's a great thread that I'm very interested in. Unfortunately this being a car audio forum I think there are too many bass heads for me to personally take much listening advice from. I'm more along the lines of an audiophile that very much prefers a natural sound and as close tithe original recording. I use very little eq in both my car ad my portable devices. And both sound a lot alike. I live bass too, but the mids and highs have to be able to keep up while remaining tonally equal. The Senn cans and Sony and Bose are all more of a commercially based headphone and that's why you see so many people suggesting them. The only recommendation that has really surprised me to see here is the AKG702. That's a very nice higher end unit. Another to consider if you can let your budget go that far would be the Audeze LCD-2. They run close to $1k though. I do think no matter what you choose, an amp will always help.

And another thing about using an amp, try to use a line out dock from iPod/iPhone. It's a much cleaner connection that the crappy headphone out. The 5-5.5g iPod video had the best DAC of any of em.

Bringing this back to bring a little attention to another headphone I forgot to mention. SOL Republic. The same headphones you may have seen Michael Phelps wearing between races this Olympics. Bassy like the Beats but the sound is more refined. I have not had a chance to hear these myself but I will be shopping for a pair after the new year. Looks like a great inexpensive set. Under $200

An amp will not always help. If a headphone has a low impedance and high sensitivity an amp is useless. The only time you need one is if the impedance is high and sensitivity is low.
