Default Building Enclosures For HT Setups?

So i haven't built too many home theater enclosures, but i do know someone that wants one built for his Treo SSX 15. Specs on their page say [email protected] with 50sqin. of port, now i know that applies to car stereo setups, but in the HT world i would want to tune a lot lower, closer to 20Hz correct? While also going bigger on port area. Or are the original specs pretty much what i want to shoot for?

I known this is an old thread, but I was just curious about port area when building for home theater..... Is there a rule of thumb.

I'm building for a Dayton ultimax 15. I want to tune 18-19 and I'm gonna go about 6 Cu ft. Just not sure if I should apply the 12-16 sq in general guideline

You want to tune to like 15-20hz, you won't like having a 100" long port, use what you can fit
