Default 11.2 Surround Sound?

Just wondering if anyone has an ultra high-end HT setup like this? Is it actually worth it?

Yes and it depends. I like to always run two subs because it helps with uniform LFE response throughout the room. As far as running 11 speakers, it's overkill unless you're building a sizable theather / room.

i have a home theatre room to start with. running 11.2 is pretty much senseless at this time as there is nothing formatted to actually utilize all 11 points. go look at any UHD content or Blu-ray content and most of it is still formatted to 5.1 and 7.1. i've still seen new stuff come out in 2.1. the .2 or .1 won't really matter b/c the content won't dictate a direction for those frequencies. there are a very few UHD content that have a 7.2 or 9.2 format but even that won't be noticed on an 11.2 setup. in my movie room i have a 5.1 setup via an Onkyo 705 which is THX certified. I don't utilize the the remaining 2.0 for the movie room instead I have those speaker set for zone 2 for my back patio area. there is minimal difference from 5.1 to 7.1 in regards to sound unless you're watching a bunch of NatGeo stuff. a good HT set up should be heavily focused on 3.1 b/c that is what carries most of the action in any content.

depending on what you are calling 11.2, Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 is very popular and uses 11 discrete channels and sounds amazing. I will say that it needs to be in a dedicated media room or theater environment, because seating and speaker placement are crucial to the experience.

I have just been reading about the Dolby Atmos and it sounds really impressive. I only have a 5.1 right now since its all I need but when I get out of my apartment and into a house where I can have an actual surround sound setup then I will get some better equipment.

No experience with 11.2 but my brother just showed me his 7.2 this weekend. Sounded killer but I personally think I'd have trouble appreciating anything beyond that in a basic house application. I'm assuming the people above talking about the need for a dedicated theatre room are spot on

Next time you go to the movie theatre for a movie, while watching the screen until the movie starts, count how many speakers are hanging up. Here, there's Regal Cinemas...there's a lot in each. As for subs, I have no idea what they are/run.

I agree with that most blu ray's aren't recorded for 11.2 and if your running a 2 subwoofer setup on a reciever sometimes it's only mono sound not running stereo subwoofers. I'm not exactly shure on an 11.2 reciever about mono or stereo sub, but i've recently checked into 7.2 recievers that were just mono subwoofer sound.

Heck, 5.1 is pushing it for me. I'm more of a 2.1 kinda guy.... 3 way cabinets with 8~10 inch woofers and a nice 15 inch sub "tucked away" somewhere lol
