I have 2 12's (HT subs) in my room on a bash 300 and I first set it by DMM then backed it down to tune by ear because 150 each was just way too much. I think I ended up around 60-65w each. And even then I have the sub level on my receiver turned from 0 to -10 because they are just too damn loud.

My sub (HSU STF-2) is a ported 10" with a 200 watt Bash amp and it's pretty loud. I have a small living room, but it's opened up to my kitchen and hallways so it's a pretty big area. It can shake stuff, rumble your butt, etc. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to try something bigger, but this is honestly perfectly fine for my setup.

If I turn mine up full tilt stuff moves on my bed and desk. I don't think my computer/dvr/tv like that much movement.

The way I set mine was just leaving the "level" knob (gain I guess) on the plate amp somewhere between 1/3 and half way up, and ran the Audyssey EQ on my receiver. I ended up bumping the sub level up on my receiver a notch or two just because I like it a little louder (but it's not overpowering at all). When I first got it I didn't set it up right and was watching War of the Worlds and my sub was not too happy. Had to back it off real quick.

Depends on the intensity and room size.

Honestly these mentioned setups are probly not real amazing like we make it sound. My uncle is an ht freak, a fast processer on his tv, and a his recieved cost grands but I dnt remember the cost, I don't know what subs he has but it kills a movie theater by a mile. And the sq is setup nicely too. Best ht I've ever heard.

I'm sure plenty of people using caraudio subs will windup getting a response they think is nice and loud but when they learn how to build the right box or get the right subs is when the ht really amazes you.

You have to learn some and get the experience before you realize the best types of subs to use.

If you go sealed with a moderate amount of power like 150 or so the make sure suspension is compliant(loose). Sealed will kick butt and sound better if you get a subwoofer with decent compliance and a good size box for it.

You can build a diy ht sub with a small motor from caco.

Get a relatively small motor like an re se motor, 12, 15, or 18" cone bigger the better or something heavy, do a big box and seal it on a few hundred watts! Even 100 is cool.

Soft spaced spiders and easy to move surrounds are nice.

My planis a level 2 15 on like 200-300 watts in a sealed enclosure

You are good to go...

What it is and why it works: A heavier cone is more "inefficient" but that getts put into the subwoofers ability to rolloff slower below the F3 and will have a more lower FS and lower F3 which means more efficiency down low rather then above.

"Lower level" subwoofers like the level 2 are actually good for HT if the cone is heavy but it may just have that higher Qts because it has a small motor, but will work good still. You can get more SPL with lows by using a bigger motor and even heavier cone and have great response, but in an avg HT you dnt need much motor as demonstrated by alot of HT subs out there.

The level 2 has an FS of 33 which is okay, but could be nicer with a lower one. Did you buy it yet?

In all honesty, an SA-12 would make a great HT sub. It has a (predicted) flat response in [email protected] if I remember correctly. Could go lower as well, room gain 20-40hz will flatten it out.
