Default Got a new car, 20 years old and highly used!

Got a new carÖ Mmm, well, can 20 years old and highly used be considered new? lol. 1995 Lincoln Town Car Cartier. Got this a month ago, overall seems to run / drive ok, but honestly havenít driven it much. Paid $500, so yeah, as you can imagine it has problems. Think it will work out for a while though without spending a fortune. Hope nothing major pops up, if so will strip parts to sell then scrap it.

Donít really hang on other audio forums, so thought Iíd share my new car / project. Pretty sh!tty overall compared to most others nice rides posted, lol. I don't have much else to post about, so...

No system of any sort in it currently, but did come with a Sony head unit!

Has been parked since I got it home pretty much as it needs some work, just waiting on some parts to arrive. It should have been done alreadyÖ Got most what it needed done though, waiting on some front hubs / bearings.

Fair shape, has some rust in one spot mainly, but most is fairly good still. Will have to get to that at some point. Seats are a bit worn, but the rest of the interior should clean up with a bit of work. Got this so I have an extra car and do whatever I want to it really, so condition was not really a concern. May even try my hand at custom interior, or at least a new headliner, lol.

Needs cleaned very badly, I only wiped dust off the dash and gross dirt off some stuff. Want to get it driving before anything else.

The pics are bad, but gets dark quickly and this thing has been parked so havenít got a chance to take it out for good pics; that and I never take pics of my cars, lol.

Color is Ivory Pearl metallic white, my camera flash exaggerates the color a bit, but does appear to change shades of white in different lighting and has a bluish tint.

Can't tell if this is a pic of a car or a tree...

Will be taking the dealer emblem off ASAP, lol. I hate those... unless I can talk them into paying me for advertising! Maybe I'll contact them! I didn't buy this from a dealer though, previous owners didn't care I guess.

Guess they had a graphics business. Not sure how hard it will be to remove off the windows.

Yeah I love the seats in these cars! My other car is a 91 Town Car so Iím use to them; my sister had a 2008-ish or so Jetta and now has an Audi something and totally different worlds when I drove those, lol. So far nothing majorly wrong, mostly common stuff that wears out and needs replaced anyway, time will tell once I drive it more. At the price I'm not too stressed about it.

Looks like a nice find man.

I bought a beater 97 Taurus Wagon on the 23rd. $500 too. What I didn't know was the amount of rot on this hunk a junk. Lol.

Are you planning on making the Lincoln a SPL machine?

Iíll give anything some thought really! Currently have no plans whatsoever in mind on what I'm going to do. I will likely be driving this until it goes to the scrap yard, so yeah, staying original is not a concern.

That 97 Taurus Wagon looks pretty good for $500, lots of potential for a loud setup, but yeah at these prices they may have some problems, lol. You get the wagon for stereo purposes?

My car has one spot / area of nasty rust rotted all the way through, gonna need some work there for sure; the rest isnít too bad. Also looks like someone replaced some brake lines that rotted out, so if all seems well with the car I will replace them all in one shot down the road.

While I am not too concerned yet over the cost of repairing the car, doing all the work myself it wonít be too bad and keeping it as cheap as possible. Unless a major problem shows itself that is out of my capabilities; Iíll admit I certainly donít know much about car repair, lol, I usually manage though. Never really been much into cars, just loud stereos!

Will still need to get an alt yet and battery(s). Have to slowly piece it together which may take a while.

I would love nothing more then to finally do an all out SPL vehicle, thatís always been a big dream! But not likely yet. Will probably be a small setup overall. I currently have my 15Ē Kove Armageddon in my 91 Towncar on an MTX 1501D, definitely not very impressive in these big trunks, so am thinking of doing something inside the vehicle / trunk but not certain yet. The down side to these cars is the gas tank / shelf in the trunk right behind the rear seat, doesnít leave a lot of room right there.

I want to do something decent stereo wise and have fun with it, but really not sure what yet while still being on the cheap. I kind of happened into the car and have never really planned out a stereo as it gets costly fast. I mainly needed an extra / spare car so got this.

Thats a really nice find man.....I have a 94 Town Car Tournament Edition I got a couple years ago from a elderly woman local for like $900, had a few issues but after that ran great for a while....currently getting brought back to life after having issues with the rear axle and me giving up on the car for a few months because of work and some other things.

Figured Iíd take a chance at the price and maybe have a decent driver after Iím done. This one may need a new set of rear axles down the road, feels ďokĒ when rotating the hub, but the bearings may be wearing down the axles, was hard to tell honestly, so donít think it is bad yet at all if so. Guess that is common on these, not the greatest axles, weíll see how it goes. $900 is a pretty good deal as well; the limited editions are nice and you donít see as many as you do the regular models that's for sure. I would have paid $900 if it was pretty decent too. Hope you get some time to get it done, nice car and the rear end doesn't seem too difficult to do on these (though I've never done it, lol), a bit of work and time though depending on the problem.

Wish the weather was warm, would have had it cleaned up while waiting for parts. lol

I forgot all about this thread, sitting here watching the first Leprechaun movie and it dawned on me that I might have created a thread when I bought this car. Sure enough I did.

So its been running pretty good, burns oil and seems to have an oil leak, but no matter, will figure it out. Runs / idles very smooth after new plugs / wires and cleaned the badly clogged EGR channels. Needs front end suspension rebuilt, but so far no major issues. Also swapped a dead o2 sensor.

Transmission doesn't shift all that great when accelerating quickly, but if you drive it moderately it feels fine.

I also started fixing the badly rusted "dog leg" on the driver side last year. I cut out the rusted through panels and fabricated some new ones and welded it in. Not the prettiest work, but my first time attempting body repair, good enough. Sadly that new metal is covered in rust again as I never got a chance to prime it last year, oh well...

I don't even recall opening the rear doors when I bought the car as I don't remember the rust that bad, haha. Actually I chipped some bubbles away before I took this photo so it didn't look that bad at first.

Clogged EGR channels:

Rust repair: my first time doing body repair to a car.

Shaped new panels and welded them in: my welding is horrendous. Welded in 4 or 5 panels total.

Clean line / contour with the door shut, so once painted would be hard to tell it was fixed unless looking real hard.

I posted this in the other thread about cars, but might as well post here as well. My new wheels:$100 score
