I build boxes on the side and have been getting a lot of people asking about aero's. I decided to try an aero port box for my 2 xd8's, if not for anything else but a learning experience. I have access to a meter, so I also wanted to be able play around with tuning fairly easily. I decided an external aero was the way to go. I've never flared pvc before and had some issues but a member suggested cooking oil, and they turned out pretty good.
Box is [email protected]
(net) with a 4" aero
1/2" roundover on the port panel
Inside of the port sitting evenly
I mounted the port with screws and liquid nails. I decided to use bondo to fill in everything and make a smooth transition. This was taken before sanding the filler smooth
Box is together, test fitting the port
Decided to add a trim piece to help with looks and also serve as a brace, and mounted the subs.
Playing around on the meter with port direction.
This is what I settled on. Did a 143.11db on a 38hz tone.
Picked up over 2db over my old box. Old box was the same size and tuning but with 18sqin per cube of port(slot).
Was a fun build, and I learned a lot about aero's. I was worried I'd have port noise with only 8.07sqin per cube on 1000-1200w rms, but dont have any
