Well I just got an '04 Hyundai Tiburon GT and I was doing the usual maintenance work on it when I found an old Kenwood KX600.4 amp I bought many years ago but never installed from storage. I figured why not use this and throw in some new speakers to tighten up the sound a bit in the small coupe. So, I ditched the stock "Infinity premium" system and put some Polk db6501s in the front doors, and picked up a cheap Pioneer 12" sub for the trunk. I bought a Pioneer 80-PRS head unit. The system sounded ok for a few weeks. I was pleased with the soundstage of the Polk components, and the sub was mediocre, but definitely a surprise considering it cost under $40. Then, my Kenwood died. Specifically, channels 3 & 4 did. So, I just sent the amp to Kenwood for out of warranty repair. Depending on how expensive this will be, I'm either going to pay for it, use a beat up Audiobahn A4601Q amp I have, or buy new.

In the meantime I'm looking for a decent replacement sub or subs. I re-routed some 0 gauge wire through the car to a distribution block so I can have 2 amps. Since this is my daily driver, I'm not looking for anything crazy. Preferably no more than 1400 watts. And I value trunk space, which is why I have a single sub in mind, like a SA 12". I'm not really sure yet whether I'm going to run the sub at 2 or 1 ohm, but I would like a monoblock amp that can handle at least 1000 watts. I was looking into a MB Quart 1000, though I would love the 1500 that was discontinued for a bit more $. I also grabbed a cheap pair of Kicker 6x9's for rear sound fill.

I know this setup won't impress you guys. But I just want a first system I can truly enjoy and be somewhat proud of. I don't want to have extra batteries, I don't need an upgraded alternator, or anything else drastic. I just want a reliable system that the only upgrades I have to worry about are the big three and maybe a deep cycle battery.

What do you think about sub and amp choices? I want subs with decent spl, without much sq sacrifice.

I don't know why I kept writing Kenwood, it's a Kicker kx600 amp.

I Will Be The First To Say, But I'm sure People Will Agree With Me...If You Value Trunk Space And Want A System That will Impress (BecausE Of Its Size) I Would Try 2 8'S. The Sa-8 Or Dd 1508. I Love 8'S Because You Can Run Them In 1 Cubic Foot Or Less, And People Pre-Judge You When You Say You Have 2 8" Subs Lol. Just For The Wow Factor And Proving StupiD People Wrong, 8', Are Awesome!
