Thanks for the welcome and great question! The answer is no. No alternator and no 'starter' to crank. The 12V battery is pretty small as a result and only powers accessories with the car in ACC mode, go to IG-On and it flips relays to power the 14.4v bus via the main HV battery. So if you sit and listen to music in ACC mode for long you're really taxing that small 12V battery, but if you hit the power button one more time for IG-On then you're powered 14.4 by the big battery. All without turning over the internal combustion engine.
And no, you don't want to tap into the main battery directly. Toyota has already done that for you via an inverter. Just tie into the 12V battery like any other install. Best part is, it's in the back so no firewall to get through. Pretty roomy for running wire too.
