Default Bret from Portland, OR

96 Volvo 960 wagon. Stock front stage with 600 watt zapco sub amp with 2 fosgate p2 10" subs in a ported box tuned to something too high. Alpine cde-143bt head unit. Just switched to a thumb drive to play music instead of my crummy iPhone that I hate, now I have to figure out how to convert all my iTunes music. I'm done with Apple the trillion dollar company. Oh yeah, I hate the 2 10's. I plan on switching to 1 18" and put as many 8" midbass drivers in the doors as I can fit. Ill keep the stock dash speakers for a while they don't sound too bad. I just picked up a Mosconi DSP to help me sort this out.

Thanks for reading my profile.

Bret

A single 18 would sound fantastic in a nice low tuned ported box. I would reconsider the door speakers though. Perhaps a nice pair of 6.5's with some good tweeters on the dash might sound a bit better but not necessarily be as loud. What I would do If I wanted custom doors is put a nice 3"-5.25" and 8" driver, with a 1" silk dome tweeter on the dash. That would get plenty loud and sound great. It all depends what you are going for at the end of the day.

What 18 are you looking at going with?

Thanks for your reply. Instead of the single 18" I'm considering building a box for the 10's and tuning to the fs of the subs which is 29hz. Much cheaper route and might work, but might not. I'll find out.

Since posting my intro here I went ahead and acquired 4 8" soundqubed midbass drivers for my doors. I'm going this route despite reading here and there that its not a good idea. I'm going to run them at a narrow 80hz-250Hz and see how that sounds. Maybe it will rattle the s**t out of my doors I'll try and sound deaden as much as I can. I listen to lots of types of music but its metal like Slayer that is missing too much midbass on my system. The bass guitar is so important to that music and I can barely hear it. The 10" subs sound pretty good above 80Hz compared to 15's but I'm still wanting to turn my crossover on them down to 80Hz.

I'm not sure whats in the dash, probably 3's they sound really good. I may have to add some 5.25" drivers somewhere, but I doubt it. I'm not sure how well a couple 3's are going to balance out with the 4 8" mids. Ill find out.

Have a good day.
