Hello all, my name is Chris and I live near Ocala, FL. I have been lurking this site for a little while now and decided I might actually post. I am far from an audio expert, but I do know my way around a system or two. I drive an '05 Ford Ranger 4x4 Supercab.
My current sub setup is a first gen Kicker Solo-Baric L7 15" 4 ohm DVC wired @ 2ohms to a Power Acoustik LT-1920. Now, try not to hate to hard on the L7, I got an awesome deal on it 4 years ago. It is in a sealed box I built. I chose to go sealed simply for lack of airspace.
My mids/highs are just 4 Alpine Type-S 5x7s in the factory locations, powered by an Alpine MRP-F300 4 chan amp.
Headunit is a Kenwood KDC-X993.
Some other things I have done are the "big three" in 1/0 along with upgrading various grounds throughout the truck. I replaced the 95A alt with a 200A alt and I have an Optima Yellow top under the hood. I am extremely disappointed in the YT though. I have been contemplating going with an Odyssey battery under the hood and moving the YT in the cab or something. I'm not sure yet. I also have a Tsunami 2 farad cap that I'm basically using as a distribution block.
Here is where I am wanting advice though. I want to get rid of my L7 because it is terrible as far as SQ goes. It does not have a very flat response at all. When listening to a song it gets loud below say 40Hz, but you can barely hear it any higher. I want to go with a Sundown setup as I have heard great things, but I am not sure what I "need." I don't think I am ready to give up being able to shake other people's windows in traffic, but I would like to be able to enjoy my music too if you know what I mean. I was thinking two SA-10s and and SAZ-1500D, but I am not sure if it will be loud enough for me. Any opinions? Keep in mind I love my low bass ~30Hz.
