Default Greetings from Portland, OR!!!

Hey everyone, Sam Carter here from Custom Sounds NW, based in Portland OR! CSNW is my company I own and operate myself, and I also work as a laptop repair tech at Nerds On Call. At CSNW, I specialize in installation, setup and repairs of mobile electronics, including just about anything you can imagine putting in a car, from DVD players, overhead and headrest screens, PS2's, to alarms and remote starts. I also design and build my own lineup of custom enclosures, whether they are built from wood, fiberglass or plexi. I also do custom welding and fabricating, such as false floors, amps racks, custom battery racks/trays, etc. I have been installing for about 12 years now on my own. If your from Portland, and want some work done to your car, give me a call at (503) 780-7955. I hope to hear from you soon!

Hello sam, I am just a bridge away over in the couv. Good to see another local on the board. As luck would have it I am about to have my set up installed as I have finally collected everything. I am looking for somebody to put it in since I honestly don't have time or the location to do it myself. Email me some pics of your installs at [email protected].

Better yet, check out my install gallery over at Car Audio And Electronics Magazine and tell me what you think. It is a work in progress, and I haven't had a chance to upload all of my work yet, but I do work full time over at Nerds now, so sometimes things are hectic for me between the two. I am available after 6 pm on weekdays and anytime during the weekends.

Thanks for the introductions guys, I have quite a few friends that are members of NWSPL, and been wanting to join the group myself, actually. If you were at the Streamline audio show in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago, you might have remembered me, I was the guy that stuffed two fi 18's into the back of my subaru wagon Been slowly doing some upgrades to it since then, I finally have a decent deck and my PG 4 channel wired in and set up. Eventually, I will be installing a car PC, designing and building a new box for the twins, as well as doing some much needed electrical upgrades, the stock alt on my car is dismal, at best. Even running my amp at 2 ohm, I managed to catch the alt on fire not too long ago, though that was mostly due to bad grounds throughout the car. Then I can rewire the setup for .5 ohm again. I also want to find some good high efficiency mids and tweets to use, since my mains cant keep up with my bass already... But, I am not trying to sell people on the forum anything, I am really just trying to get my name out there.

Zoo, is this what your dash looks like?

If it is, then I would suggest relocating the heat and A/C panel down below where the pocket is now, and then you could surely fit a double din deck in its place, it would probably require quite a bit of work to make it happen and have it look good, but most people I know with BMW's usually run single DIN flip outs in their vehicles as it is an easier choice. But, I understand that not everyone likes the "easy" route, lol. Some people enjoy the one off look...

That's how mine looks. Flip out would get in the way of my ac vents though

I saw the stock nav in a car similar to mine and noticed the ac/heater controls are down below

I was hoping it wouldn't be so hard.
I don't remember you at the show. Maybe post up some pics of your whip and install?

Well after seeing that, it shouldnt be that much work, you would want to visit your local boneyard and pull a heater panel and pocket out of a car with the navi, and my guess is that it would be a direct bolt in after you remove the original pocket out of your vehicle. Might have to lengthen the harness, there may also be an extension harness that is part of the navi enabled cars, or maybe the wiring is long enough to reach either location.

Here is a picture of how my setup looked when I took it to the show-

And a picture of me...
