Hi my name is fred and I'm an alcoholic.
I had a message saying that I've never posted here before so I should intruduce myself. I have been into the car audio game for quite a while now. Was the installation manager at a local high end shop until they closed the doors. I don't care how loud it is, just how warm and "true" it sounds. MY last 2 systems consisted of
boston GT22 and GT20 biamping a set of Z6 for front stage
Boston GT20 on a Boston pro 4.5 as center channel
Boston SL60 rears
Boston GT22 on a pair of G2 12's
Kenwood KVT-911DVD with 5.1 processor, fiber optic setup, and too many little toys to list. Was running the full 5.1 setup, awesome for DVD's like the clapton "one more car one more rider" DVD, and anything else 5.1. The rest of the time I switched the center channel and rears off when listening to music...
Next was PPI A404 (art series) biamping a set of Boston pro 6.53
JL 8w7 on a GT20 (sealed)
Kenwood KVT-817DVD originally as source, then switched for alpine 9855 so I could have the time alignment and align my tweeters independantly from the woofers and midrange (down low, tweets were up high). Made all the difference in the world for a good soundstage.
Now I am sticking small and simple, emphasizing installation and tuning over super expensive and nice equipment. I've had tons of super high end stuff in the past (employee accomodations ROCK... so I wasn't out that much money for a wicked setup
) But now I have a GT20, a G1 10" sub, a JL 300/2 and still deciding on a front stage. Rears will be deleted (as they always have). I have a set of infinity 60.7 components I got for free floating around the garage, will probably use those for now, until I decide exactly what I want. I've always wanted a set of Dyn's because their midbass is amazing, but we'll see what these infinity's sound like. Never been a fan of anything infinity in the past, but maybe I can work around that. I'm emphasizing this install more on enclosure design, sound deadening, tuning, etc, while maintaining a near stock appearance.
We'll see how it comes out. Just got the new beater car, so blank canvas is open
