Unless they're interested in a custom like the unique melody Merlin's. a hybrid with balanced armatures for mids and highs and a dynamic driver for the bass.
The Crossfade and 750DJ's are bass heavy. They are also more well rounded than the SOL's. Id rather have a more bass heavy, well rounded can than a Beats clone that has absolutely nothing to offer other than bass.

I'm more along the lines of an audiophile that very much prefers a natural sound and as close tithe original recording. I use very little eq in both my car ad my portable devices. And both sound a lot alike. I live bass too, but the mids and highs have to be able to keep up while remaining tonally equal. The Senn cans and Sony and Bose are all more of a commercially based headphone and that's why you see so many people suggesting them. The only recommendation that has really surprised me to see here is the AKG702. That's a very nice higher end unit. Another to consider if you can let your budget go that far would be the Audeze LCD-2. They run close to $1k though. I do think no matter what you choose, an amp will always help.
An amp will not always help. If a headphone has a low impedance and high sensitivity an amp is useless. The only time you need one is if the impedance is high and sensitivity is low.

BigBen And another thing about using an amp, try to use a line out dock from iPod/iPhone. It's a much cleaner connection that the crappy headphone out. The 5-5.5g iPod video had the best DAC of any of em.

99Bonney I'm not the OP but I'm still here! Lol

BigBen I guess the OP has ducked out. Haven't heard from em in a while.

If money were no concern I would have the Beyer T1 Tesla by now. Reterminated balanced xlr with pure ofc cables. But that's about a $1800 setup. Maybe Santa will bring em this year.

99Bonney Yea I just read your review on them actually. Some of the songs like Styx is something I would listen to to test out some headphones. Too bad you don't still have them, I'd pay for you to mail them to me so I could hear them lol.
