Any Auto Mechanics or Snap on dealers on the forum

I have a few questions about snap on, I have been a mechanic for over 12 years now. I am at a huge dealership at this time, Its part of the Penske group.

Since I been there I have seen the Snap on dealer once. In just over a year. I worked at a few places. And I must say I have seen this time and time again. No show snap on dealers. Just last week this guy came in said he was a snap on representative and wanted to know how many techs we had at the shop and who would buy snap on tools. I kindof laughed and said no one. As I have stopped buying snap on tools. We have cornwell and matco tool guys come in. I think both are better in prices with cornwell being on top with good prices.

Me I have a mix of tools, from Snap on, Mac, Matco, Cornwell, Craftsmen and so others like KD lisle OTC.


My question is. Is the snap on dealers like this in other states. I for one have no clue how they are still in business.

I see a tool guy every week when i was work on cars. It was every tool truck one every day.

Snap On comes to my shop once a week, you can call them if you want your place added to someones route.

if no one is buying new tools from them they will stop coming by and servicing the tools you did buy from them

I've found Matco to be more reliable. Wh had a great Snap On rep that would come from New Orleans once a week. When Katrina hit, Dino had a lot of damage. After fighting with insurance for a long time, he retired. To this day, our area still doesn't have a reliable Snap On rep. We had a guy from the Houma area, but he was sporadic at best as to when he would show up and I purchased almost weekly.

My view on snap on, Its just over priced junk. Their sockets are not what they used to be. Plus other things they sell like kits and all you can find them for sale just about any other place.

I know the deal. I just think its funny when they never shop up but when they do. Its like they have no clue what you are talking about. And act like they have been coming every week.

I seen two snap on guys go out of business, and one retire( that guy I seen once)

My dealership is huge with over 8 makes, Each place has its own shop and we even have a body shop on site. How many techs do you think we have lol. For a snap on guy not to come. I know my shop has over 15 techs, From A to C techs.

I would not buy or even order anything online from a snap on guy. How could I, when the guy never shows up for months on end.

Right now I like my cornwell guy the best. I like his prices and the tools are nice as well. And he shows up every week and still comes up to me even if I dont have the cash to buy anything that week.

I'm at my brother in law's shop a lot working on my car. The snap on guy comes once a month unless he calls him for anything he needs at the moment! My brother in law buys a lot from them though and has been for quite some time now. I myself bought an impact driver from them! Thing is a beast!! It's a battery impact driver strong enough to remove your tire nuts!! I love that thing!!
