The landlords brought up late rent, utilities and him being sick and in the hospital. They do not want to settle so it goes to a trial by a jury of my peers.

Were you late at the time of the fire or just in the past? If you were paid up shouldn't matter. Was the apartment house in disrepair? They're supposed to keep them up and make sure the home is safe for tennants. Him being sick doesn't change his obligations. I hate when people get screwed cause landlords are sheisty. My boss is like that with his properties.
