Default tax help

Hey guys, this is my first time filing taxes myself. I have went to the irs website and got links to a bunch of places to efile, but everyone ive tried wants me to pay to file my state one.

I am only going to get a return of 6 bucks so i am not paying 40 to file my state one. Does anyone use a website that doesnt charge for state taxes?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, like i said this is my first time doing this so im pretty clueless.

Unless you are military, you can go ahead and bank on paying for a state file. You can save the file for next year, but I highly advise that you go ahead and take care of it so you don't get an unhappy audit by the IRS. It does suck, but it's normal tax practice here in America. At least you don't "owe" taxes like some people because that is very common also.

Wait until down the road when your taxes become really complicated. I assume you have just a W-2 right now?

Dude, the post office has the 1040ez for free. Write in a few numbers off your W-2 and send it in. Done. It'll cost you a stamp and the time to drive your lazy, interwebz surfin ass to the PO.

E-file your federal return and mail your state one. I use TurboTax, at the end of the session it will print everything you need and even give you the address to mail it to.
