Default How many of you guys here Military/ Ex military?

Hi guys,

i was looking through some old army pics i had today and just was wondering,

how many of you guys here are military/ ex military?

Just curious.

Down where i come from, once you hit 18 ( or finish your high school diploma equivalent), all males must go into the army

Gays/ Homosexuals are not exempted either. I have seen armyclerks who are cross dressers ( basically army clerk by day, street walker tranny by nite)

So basically, it was 2.5 yrs of your life to the nation ( its 2 yrs now, 2.5 yrs when i was there).

If you do not enlist and go AWOL, basically the government will hunt you down and jail you.

Jehovah's witnesses get sent to the Military prison for 2.5 yrs ( they cant carry arms or something) and serve out their time there.

Going into the military is both quite a shitty and fun experience at a same time.

You meet people from all walks of life, meet some REALLY dumb people, get pushed the hardest both mentally and physically and u learn that out in the field, your life is in the hands of the guy next to you and vice versa.

It really makes a man out of you for us, its a little rite of passage down here.

I was wondering, for you military guys out there, what made you enlist and wats your opinion of your time in the service?

Also what do you think would happen if the US had a conscripted army like us down here ( ie, you have to serve yoru time once you hit 18-19 yrs old)

Just some random thoughts

Cheers all!

im not military or ex,
but i dont think the U.S. could afford to have mandatory military service,

plus it would really mess up the college enrollment process,

i tried to join, once, but the marines were pretty particular back in 93,
they wouldnt take high school drop-outs

haha..

it messes up our college enrollment.

its pretty sad when we are digging trenches at night, and the guy in the trench next to me is upset cos his girlfriend is out partying with a bunch of older guys from college, possibly getting banged by them, and here we are, in the jungle digging trenches getting raped by mosquitoes
hahaha

I've been in the Army 8 yrs now, been to Afghanistan and Iraq. It's definitely an experience and will make you enjoy the finer things in life.

i and many other believe you should have to serve at least 1 year whether its reserves, or even community service..somehow everyone should pay back a little bit to our country. its just the right thing to do. I think later in life it would make everyone have a higher respect for our troops and be more in tuned with political issues with the country. It gives more of a sense of pride. I haven't served myself, but 2 of my friends were both deployed in the recent battles in Iraq and Afghan. Recently my best friend just left for Afghan as a commander of 150 guys, bless his heart, i have the upmost respect for these guys who give up our great freedoms to do this for years on end.
