Default Apple TV & Alternatives

So lately i have been wanting my netflix back but sold my xbox awhile ago because i got tired of paying for xbox live just to use netflix, i was gonna buy a PS3 but just never got around to it. But recently i heard about this apple tv device and saw they are only ~$100 and am probably gonna buy one, but before i do that i heard there are other alternatives, anyone have any input?

Roku is a pretty solid alternative. Not as attractive or slick but does basically the same thing.

If you're getting a box like that get the roku. Almost every salesperson in the store advises people to stay away from the apple tv's and go with roku. I've also yet to see a roku box come back as a return for being defective. Not so much with Apple TV. If you're a diehard apple guy get it. My choose would be a roku.

Forgot to add, HH Gregg is the store

I own both and frequently use both. Not going to spew second hand bullshit about reliability. Both will work just fine for your usage. Go with whatever one catches your eye. If the Roku is substantially cheaper and you don't mind a little lower development, go with it. If you want the Apple TV, it'll also do the job.

I have 2 Apple TVs and have never had a problem with either one. One has been used almost daily since I got it a year ago. Netflix always works great on them. Plus if you have an apple device (Mac, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad) you can wirelessly view audio and video from them on your tv.

I have apple tv, a WD box and roku. if you don't have an ipad or iphone/touch there is no reason in my opinion to buy an apple tv. If you were an apple fan boi you wouldn't even be asking this question because you would have a apple tv already that being said for the money roku is the best bang for the buck.

We bought a bluray player for our dining room to use for netflix so that's another option to consider. I'll be honest though it is super slow on ours compared to ps3 or Xbox but does the job. I have been considering getting a roku just to try out. I see them on 1saleaday.com pretty frequently.
