Default Small Car fire

Well fml.
It wasn't my wiring job but I had a small fire happen in my car due to the past owner's wiring job that I was unaware of up to this point. It shorted out and burned a bunch of my wiring under my dash but that's not the bad part. Right around where my wire goes through my firewall is where it started the mini fire where it got hot enough to burn my gas pedal off? Wtf?? Cut some wires as fast as a could and put out part of the fire with lots of water, and thankfully someone came by with a fire extinguisher for electrical fires.

Long story short. Other people suck at wiring jobs. EDIT: ( most people )

and i'll try and get some pics tommorow as it's dark, and my hands are burned from pulling wire out to save my car ( yeah bare hands pulling out burning wire... ) tbh idk if pulling some of the wire helped, but the part I did pull didn't completely go so I guess so? I kind of panicked.

And if anyone is wondering, I haven't touched anything underneath the dash in at least 6 months. but what I did do under there was solid work and none of this bullshit where they spliced right next to my door relay and didn't even cover it...

Damn that sucks people do suck at wiring when I got my first car in my dash where they installed a deck instead of using a harness and just taped the wires together and they did a run of 4 gauge then taped it to two 8 gauge wires. Then they wired 2 12s 2 6x9 and 2 tweets to a hifonics hifi 2000.1

Damn no good man.

Had something partly similar happen to me from previous owners hack job of the wiring under the rear seat for the factory amp. Some wire(s) were shorting out on the metal under the rear seat and luckily I was outside and in the Jeep messing around with something when I smell burning plastic/electronics cant figure out where its coming from and smoke starts coming out of the dash so as fast as I could unhooked battery terminals on front and rear batts and it stopped smoking.

I quick took the cd player out and it had started to burn a little of this weird foam on the factory antenna wiring. Checked the wiring under hte rear seat and some wires were hot so I knew thats where it was shorting out and fixed that issue.

Glad my friggin Jeep didnt start on fire. Might have if I hadnt been out there when it shorted out I wouldnt have known it was on fire until it was too late. Fried the head unit but damn glad thats all that happened.

Scary shit man. Reminds me I should get a fire extinguisher for in the Jeep...

Yeah I'm thinking of now making an easier solution to remove power from the batteries now, and of getting a fire extinguisher. You don't realize how much it sucks till it happens. Cause once it starts burning, it's almost already too late.

So you tried to put out an electrical fire with water.

You win.

It worked. Actually, it was almost put out before the fire extinguisher guy got there. I obviously removed all power before doing this...

At the point I was using water, all the wire that was burned was burned. It was just a matter of putting the fire out.

Ok haha. I was going to say, throwing water on wires with electricity on them is asking for another fire to start.

What did the previous owner wire up?

I'm not for sure. I've had the car for two years and never realized it because they didn't mention it when I bought the car. But there was something spliced into the door lock relay and it was just exposed as could be. Well it didn't 'look' like it was protected, but it could've been burned off idk. Whatever it was is gone though.

Oh and pretty sure i'm going to need 2 new 20ft 1/0 runs now... They didn't burn cause i fuse that stuff, but they were running with the wire that did and the plastic looks a little bit fused together. any good deals lol?

haha ok. Like I said I don't know much right now, but i'll look more into it tomorrow.

Oh and does it make sense for your gas pedal to just burn off?... I'm worried about that, it's just in my floor now and I don't want this to be a big money repair job.
