Default Dealing with night shift.

Anyone on here have a night shift job? I start working nights tomorrow. 7pm-7am. Comming off of 7am-7pm. Gonna be a huge change in my sleep pattern. Any advice?

You'll get used to it. At least your shifts aren't 8am-4pm and 9pm-3:30am(same day) 3 days a week and the rest 8-4 lol..those suck

Don't rush yourself at first. Wait till you get use to it before you "work hard"
The employer should understand the change and give you a little time to adjust. I work overnights and love them. I have a Monster Energy drink problem. ( I choose monster cause you can send tabs in for prizes, why not get stuff back?)

Try and eat right and get back to a regular sleep pattern. This is what helps the most.

I'm getting away from caffeine, which will make this even worse.

NO!

I just got back onto days (my second shift on days) after working nights since November 2008.

Stay busy or find something that can entertain you.

It's not all that bad. And I would switch my sleep schedule every weekend as I worked 3 12's and a 6. Work nights, live days on the weekend.

You get used to it.

Yea staying busy is gonna be hard. My job is sitting in a chair watching a reel of wire wind up.

me and my wife did. we have a solar shade over the window in our bedroom. it keeps out all incoming light. that thing worked wonders for our sleep. big thing for us was going to sleep once we got home. we did fine for years working overnight.

Energy drinks etc... will just make you feel like shit, will either make you crash halfway through the day or make you stay up all night.

I drink 95% water, then milk and the occasional sodey water and tea.

Plus energy drinks are expensive.

I've heard "black out" curtins are the best way to get to sleep. I'm stubborn though, I won't buy them untill I can't sleep.
