Default selective service system? what?

Quote:
WHO MUST REGISTER

Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male immigrants living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service. It's important to know that even though he is registered, a man will not automatically be inducted into the military. In a crisis requiring a draft, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted
Got a letter with all of my info that I "gave them" ...anyone familiar?

You're supposed to do that when you turn 18. I never did...

I believe if you register to vote or even when getting a driver license you must first sign up for that.

If you don't do it voluntarily when you turn 18, you will be flagged as such if you try to do anything related to the government, such as apply for a state job, vote, enroll in school, get a drivers license (or sometimes even a library card), etc.

You can and will be enrolled automatically in some cases. The reasoning for this is that after your 26th birthday if you failed to register, you will be unable to take advantage of many of the government programs I just listed. It avoids the hassle of having to fight for those things later on if you honestly forgot. You can also select to be automatically registered when you turn 18...your parents might have done this at and age before then so you (or they) didn't forget about it later on.

How old are you? It says 21 in your profile.
