Default Deciding to swtich jobs or not

Multiple times I have found myself wanting to go apply for a new job that pays more money. Im sure we all have lol. Well the opportunities are arizing at 2 different places and making me think about trying to switch. My issue lies in the fact that I have been with my present company for 6 years now. I have a 401k, Insurance, 2 weeks paid vacation and 6 paid personal days each year, quarterly bonuses and a christmas bonus as well.

I dont mind my job but dont necessarily enjoy it either. Its not hard work. Its some of the people that drive me nuts honestly. There is also never any overtime in my department. I can do any of the jobs here though and I dont see anything arizing in the near future that will actually challenge me at all.

What would you guys do? Its a scary thought to start all new somewhere else.

I'd take all my vacation time and sick days. When I get back I'd quit. Preferably after I am already working for another company.

if i were you i would put in an application at those places and see if they will hire you. then take a weeks vacation from your current job and see if you like working at the other places. if they don't work out then just go back to the original job after the vacation is over.

I'm in a similar situation as you except I'm moving to another city and state. It's definitely a scary thing.

Stylez, I'm in somewhat the same boat as you. I've been with the company for approaching 7 years now. Lots of changes happening on a weekly basis because the company was sold to a much larger corporation back in 2009/2010 after the financial crises. It's very difficult leaving a place you've been at a long time, know the feeling. I keep asking myself there's plenty of opportunity out there but starting over, and getting back to seniority sucks. Plus who knows if you get laid off in say 6 months or so if the company cutsback. Sure, I can go someplace and make more $$ as we all wanna, but would it be worth it in the longrun?? It's a def risktaker.
The company I work for the insurance is crap....and very expensive to the point where I know a lot of people opted out because it was too much, for a family of 4. I occasionally get o/t but not all the time. If I had it my way, I'd rather get the o/t than none at all. And I'm talking about a company with 325+ people...and I know of a smaller company with 200+ with better insurance, go figure. Oh sure, we got profit sharing too every 1/4 (3 months) which isn't bad....hell having extra $$ we can always use!!
So it's a tough decision. Perhaps as someone said, take a week or two vac and try out another company...sorta a trial for yourself and start asking questions to the local co workers how long they been there how they like it how the insurance is how they're treated, etc.
