More fast-food strikes set for cities nationwide

Anyone here work at McD's, Subway, BK, etc??

This happened in downtown Seattle as well, saw on the news. Discuss.

id just fire them all and hire some new people. You work at fast food, its not designed for you to make a living at. Its suppose to be a stepping stone to move up to your next job

Exactly. I started out working at Wendy's.....this was back in mid 90's. Imagine the minimum wage back then....I think it was 4.25 if I remember right. Wasn't there long moved to other places. Eventually, just to gain exp really.

Unless you own a franchisee, then that's a diff story.

Fast food is designed to make people's lives easier. Everyone likes getting to the window and gone as fast as possible. I would gladly pay 4$ more an hour if i knew my employees cared about there job.

I started out as a delivery driver at my store. Now i run the whole thing. Who says fast food has to be a stepping stone. My friends mom is a GM at the local arbys and makes 70k+ a year. All she does is go in a make sure things run smoothly. I don't make that much but I am not far behind. For what my job entails i will be there for a long,long time.

I think this is all coming about because the only jobs out in most parts of the country are fast-food. people lost their factory jobs and had to settle.

Old news but I cannot people are still complaining about this...

One side says McDonald's made over a billion dollars in profit alone last year and could easily afford the raise to substantially raise the quality of living for its employees

The other side says McDonald's is an entry level job not designed for a long term career but to be a job at the bottom of the ladder you climb to build success.

I personally think it is STUPID to demand to raise the minimum wage to try and force McDonald's to increase wages. Much smaller jobs will get hit in the crossfire completely unable to afford such a high minimum wage. I don't care how much money McDonald's made in profit, wages are a direct reflection of the work being performed. Flipping burgers and dropping fries does nog require $15 an hour workers, that is the truth of it. I hope everyone who is on strike is replaced by a willing and hard worker for the wages that reflect the work done.

I'm an LPN and an office administrator, I know exactly what my experience and education is worth. They should know what theirs is worth.

It doesn't have to be a stepping stone, some people wait it out and move up to managers and district managers and eventually owning there own franchise. You could make a decent living if done right. I think the $15 thing is pushing it but they should make more then minimum wage. Working fast food sucks. Minimum wage should be for people that earn tips like servers and hair cutters. Plus look at how much the big shots in these corporations are making. If the owner of McDonalds is making 100s of millions a year I think they could afford to pay people a little more. The whole fast food industry is messed

I might also add that fast food chains as an entry level person has NEVER paid well.....they work hard, well some people, and is the lowest paying job in the US. Unless climbing the ladder to management or something, it's not gonna change.

They're bitching because they can't find any other work/jobs out there....yet I'm on Craigslist a lot and see tons of jobs avail. Unless they don't have the exp. those employees are lookin' for, then their SOL.

And TeamHT...this isn't old news, in fact it's been going on for quite awhile now.

Them dumb mother fuc*kers cant even get a food order right half the time or get you it in a timely manner. They dont deserve a pay increase if you cant even manage that.

And making 15 dollars an hour is just ridiculous, i was a contractor at a coal mine not that long ago making 15 an hour and that was risking my life every day. Even starting out being full time at my mine is only 17 an hour and thats high compared to most mines.

You flip burgers, make fries and dont try to find a new job to better yourself. You dont deserve a pay increase

And I agree with the statement that wage should reflect the work being preformed but if you think that "dropping fries And flippin burgers" is easy then I bet you've never worked in a fast food resteraunt. How many people have you heard say "I want to work at McDonald's cause its easy"? I've never heard anybody say that. But I have heard lots of people say they would never work there cause it looks like it sucks %#&@. You can make just as much money standing on a corner holding a sign for advertisement. Which the only requirement you need is to be able to stand.
