Default Nice local find (idmax 12s)

Browsing the local for sale ads and saw some guy selling what he thought was Q 12s for $250. I explained what they were, but he bought them for 300 with the box. So no bigge. There's a couple pings in the cones (nothing terrible) and of course scuffs on the bottoms of the motors. Coils read good and both subs play. Overall good buy. But it's nothing I needed lol. Maybe I'll do a home theater build?

Does anyone know how to tell the difference in the versions?

IIRC, the v2 had three slugs and the v3 had 2 slugs.

Those look like v3's to me. Same sub as the flatline. Check the spiders. I just reconed 2 flatlines. I have 1 idmax v3 recone and 2 flatline recones if you find yourself needing one.

I thought about the slug thing. I wasn't sure though.

Hopefully I won't need any recones yet lol.

Are the gaps pretty tight?

Nowhere near the same sub as the flatline. The IDMAX is a 2" coil with a tight gap, flatline is a 2.5" coil with a big gap. I know people always say this because ARC has used ID as a buildhouse and the IDQ/ARC subs are similar, but these two subs aren't even in the same universe as far as design goes.

Yes, very tight. I built two 10's last year out of v2 motors and I had to get special coils from PAP that were long enough and thin enough.

he is correct, just took the idmax out of the box to compare. Damn Internet "knowledge" got me. I bought the recone because I was told they were the same. They look the same in pics of the recones. And bolt together the same but the coils are different.
