Default Anybody else suffer with Gout?

I just got back from the ER with the worse Gout attack to date. I literally wanted to pull out the trusty blade and cut my damn foot off! I usually have it in my big toe but this time it was on the top of my foot and on the side, shooting into my calf. I guess becoming a vegan is in my future.

I get attacks like that too but I cant get away from red meat and whiskey. Hurts like all hell when it happens though.

My dad has it.. Just can't drink alcohol and he takes some pills from the doctor and he's good to go. Before when he drank and without the pills he couldnt even walk with the gout in his ankle.

My friends dad had it; alcohol and meat heavy diet was the culprit.

Same with my Father-in-law. Drinking/Beer does it to him every time.

I have it. I'm on Uloric, 40 mg daily. Had a flare up a couple weeks back, went to the ER because I couldn't walk without crutches due to the swelling/pain in my knee. They gave me colchicine, 2 pills at first, then 1 more after an hour. Took that, plus my Uloric, and I was able to walk in about 6 hours without any help.

Mine started in my right hand, in the thumb, ring, and pinky fingers. It's since spread to my left knee. Other than that, it's been pretty few and far between attacks.

I also can't give up beer or red meat. Pop is my biggest vice, though. Now I tend to get fountain pop, and fill it about halfway and then the rest with water, to cut back on the HFCS/Sugar intake. Plus keeps my brain happy that I'm drinking pop and not water.

It sucks man. I usually have a flare up once or twice a year. I don't drink but I eat a lot of beef, pork sausage and seafood. I've gained 40+ lbs over the last 5 or 6 yrs too.

Yeah, most people have no idea how painful it is. This last flareup in my knee felt like I had glass shards under my kneecap.

I know that I've lost weight since I was diagnosed, so I've got that going for me, so that's nice. Still, my eating habits are terrible (always have been), and I don't see me being able to change them much.

I'm 26 and I got it. I take a small dose of allopurinol daily. I almost completely cut out sodas and sugars, and now I can eat meat and drink more often. For me chicken is "safe". I can eat loads of chicken with no effect. So I try to eat chicken most days. I still eat beef and pork at least once a week in moderation.
