Default Neat doorbell

http://youtu.be/XAMqqY_2gKM

Been thinking of getting home outdoor camera but this doorbell is pretty cool for $199.. Will store video to the cloud so if someone breaks into your house or try's stealing your subwoofers off your front porch u have video of them doing it saved in the cloud.

From what I read, doorbot sucks. They are now called "ring". Guy did spot on the shark tank.

People reported that the camera quality was shit compared to what the video demo shows, and is just a huge piece of plastic crap.

I have a DoorBot, and it SUCKS! The video quality is garbage, it always disconnects from my network, you can't record the video and you can't remotely view it until someone is at your door. The hardware it shipped with was very inadequate. The mounting screws stripped immediately as did the security screw around the third time I had to unmount it and reset it.

Lol the reviews are crazy. Some say clear as day works great, then some says it sucks. Then some say watch out for fake reviews and only read/watch certified reviews. If I ever got this I'd buy local so I can take it back if I don't like it.

If the video is as good as it looks it seems like a deal. Every time you see on of those home security clips on the news I'm like "How are they ever going to identify that blurry out of focus person anyway?"

I'm 90% sure that the positive reviews are the fake ones. This wouldn't be the first time that companies hire inside people to make fake reviews to sell product. As I'm sure you know, yelp itself is not trustworthy anymore as businesses can pay to have negative reviews removed.

I had a guy offer me this thing

Guardzilla Wireless AllinOne Video Security System Black GZ502B - Best Buy

Looks cool. Control the camera from anywhere (go to mcdonalds, see what's going on, record anyone entering my room, etc)

First off, I notice it's cheap plastic (first sign of crappy product). Then I try to get the app. "Not available on tablets". Well, considering my s4's wifi stopped working, this was the only device I could use. Useless.

I also had a "looxcie" headset camera from frys for $100. Quality was crap but the device was very nice in both quality and looks and features. All around nice camera IMO. There are HD versions but this did the job for the most part.

Well, turns out that right after I sold it for a slight loss, they decided to terminate all server connectivity.

This must have been why fry's was so eager to sell them. Must have tipped all the retailers off that they were about to discontinue the product.

All these un-known brand items are just a huge risk and should be avoided IMO.

You're probably better off just buying an ipod touch 4th gen and using it as a webcam on a very budget friendly mini ITX build. You can pretty much have it recording 24/7 and 1tb HDD's are pretty cheap nowadays.

Apart from that, you could get one of these eFuture(TM) DVR USB 2.0 4 Channel CCTV Digital Security Camera Recorder Capture Adapter Card +eFuture's nice Keyring by eFuture - Shop Online for Electronics in the United States or one of these 8 CH Linux PCI DVR Card 4 CH Real Time 120 fps for CCTV Security - SecurityCamera2000.com or something like it if you want more cameras.

1. Too big.

2. Too expensive

3. No phone connectivity AFAIK

Better off getting into a home security system IMO.

Is the iPod touch weather resistant? Wouldn't you need to protect it from the elements? My porch gets lots of snow and water blowing across it during coastal storms.

My suggestion was more of a diy suggestion as a starting point. Plastic case, etc are needed. Sounds like its not something you should look into.
