Default Car Audio Schools And My Dilemma

Well here we are. I am a semester into college and not really enjoying it. I was in electrical engineering at IPFW (Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne) and it really wasn't for me. So I moved into a few more broad classes, one of four I enjoy. Anyways, I am not really thinking that this college is for me. I would rather be able to be in a more specific envirnment to what I wanna do. I want to work in cars, preferable in the audio/electrical aspect of it. This is not like a childhood fantasy. This is something I really want to work for and accomplish.
From what I have seen online, I know of Mobile Dynamics and the Installers Institute are a few of the very specific schools. Any others that come to mind? Any opinions on the schools? Would it be worth it to pay the guy I want to work for the same amount of money and have him teach me? He said he would be up for it, but I don't know if he has the time or energy for it, but he says he can. What do you guys think? Thanks for advise and opinions.

-Steve

first let me start by saying welcome to the real world.

I am definitely not an advocate for the school system but you should atleast get an Associated degree in anything. after you do that you can look into going to either one of those schools. I personally know ppl that have went to both. Installer Institute has a better more indepth program. of all the ppl that I know only 1 has a good paying job in the industry, the others barely make 30k/yr. During your stay in college getting your Associates degree you should also look into government workshops on how to file paper work for LLCs and pay taxes a small business owner. I personally have owned 2 different companies and have been fairly successful in both. My first business was a cell phone and pager shop that I owned for 3 years. My second business was Home Theatre installtion and I owned that one for 2 years. I currently do no own either and have sold both. I recently attended a local gov't workshop on small business and damn did I miss alot really helpful information. the only reason that I say get your associates degree is b/c it'll atleast get you a decent paying job to hold you over while you search or find your niche.

I know some people that went to Mobile Dynamcis and most of them didnt even up end in the car audio industry. I take E.E.T. at a public school and alot of it applies to what you need to know about amps and subs. Actually, today in class we went over subwoofers and how they work.

Here is a blanket statement to cover your issue. The truth is no teacher cares weather you learn the crap they dish out everyday, year after year, but that's not why they are there. They are there because as long as kids keep being born, there will always be schools of education to work in. That's just job security.. Also, kids need human contact and attention to survive in society so I don't figure human teachers will become obsolete any time soon.

You were taught and told that you were special. Guess what, you might be. That's what they should have said from day one. If you choose to be special you will be.
So do something about it. Go to the real college that will benefit you for years to come and make a conscious choice to learn the information and pass the classes.

All colleges are businesses. If you learn something, it's your fault.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
If it seems like the easy way out, it's not.
Car Audio Schools are far overpriced for the information you will learn.

An AA doesn't = a good paying job. I have an AA, and it hasn't done anything for me.

I think you mean "conscious", not "conscience".
