Default Working For Stupid People Sucks

Well got this new job doing maintenance @ a fast food restaurant (janitor more like it), these people really dont like new people who know more than them it seems, they feel very threatened. The refrigerator walk in went out and instead of calling for an emergency tech to get out there and preparing ice baths for the perishables like should have happened they decided to waste time guessing what was wrong, spending time waiting for another managers approval then going to the hardware store for some fuses...... I gave them advice, they ignored me and they were wrong, I was right. So after 3hrs of it being out, it was my time to go home, after 2hrs above 40deg. the food is no longer safe per FDA, the temp was above 48deg for 3hrs. I called this morning to make the management aware just to do my part (of course I got the person who was there whom I told was wasting their time), I asked if the refrigerator got fixed, their reply was, "uhhh I think so", as if they were not sure and had not discussed it or even bothered to look at the temp (and would be opening in 20 minutes from when I called).

I was actually the one who told them the temp was high, as management I would think they would need to verify cold storage temps every so often, but I guess not.

I am glad I do not work today, if anyone gets sick it isnt on me, I did my part....I will likely be on the hit list though, this woman admitted she has one and is mad because after a year she still makes min. wage (she stated she only makes 8.50 and yesterday was her 1yr anniversary.)

I sure dont feel good about working here, I have worked on a home that the backyard looked down on Shaquille O'Neal's home. I even spent the night there and the homeowners bought our entire crew steak & lobster dinners...

Oh how life throws you curve balls....

I have found that "asking questions" is much better received than telling someone...YMMV.

Also, I have found that many people in charge do not like responsibility, nor will they accept accountability...

Anytime I ever told someone higher up on the food chain how to do their job correctly it never went well... Just keep to yourself and collect that pay check

I "correct" people above me on a weekly basis, but I use several criteria before doing it.
1. Do they respect my opinion/knowledge?
2. Will they be receptive to my comment?
3. Are they receptive to anyone's comments?
4. Should I phrase it in a non confrontational question?
5. Are they in a sh!tty mood?
6. Can they disconnect their emotions from the issue at hand
7. Will my comment increase MY workload, without benefit?

etc. etc.

Yeah, not even going to talk to the fools any more, just do what I have to do and gtfo....

Maybe when they have their remodel (if I am still there) I will talk to the company who comes to do the remodel and get on with them, since I have experience remodeling them (ff restaurants), ran a small 4-6 man crew back in the day...

I know how you feel

it sucks when you're so smart and everyone else is just so dumb. That's the problem with having a super above average IQ that is basically jeanyus level.
