Default How to safely buy and sell on the internet?

So I've been trying to sell my setup lately I've gotten some good offrs but I now have a problem, how do I sell it? Am I suppose to just trust some stranger on the internet to pay me once my stuff is in their possesion? That's deffinitely not happening. So I'm hoping someone can please explain to me a safe process for buying and selling on the net, thanks.

If I am selling something, my stuff doesnt leave my posession until I have cash in my paypal or in my hand. Very rarely would I ship something first, then collect payment.

I expect the same thing when buying. I pay first, then recieve. You need to know what you are getting into with who you are trying to buy from. On forums, I wouldnt buy from someone with 6 posts.

you gotta start somewhere right?

make sure you always have pics with username so they feel safer on their part.
next, shipping first is only safe to a select few, people who have many refs, even then, they could even scam you. so its really up to you if you want to ship first.

if somebody wants that item bad enough, they'll buy it.

or make them pay half up front then ship, and rest when it arrives.

those are simple ways to get your "safeness level" up.

Make sure the person you sell to is either a proven vet or has enough references to verify themselves ! Internet sales work for the ones who are safe about it. This site is pretty good about it !

Like with you , id make you pay first or prove with references ! You can get rid of stuff because the demand for descent product at good prices is that much larger on the net !

There's no 100% with anything man, from businesses to individuals but one thing that's key in a personal online exchange is communication. When you're communicating with someone about a deal keep in contact and answer questions ASAP. Volunteer your location, phone number and get those from your prospective partner. Be thorough. If something comes up take the few seconds required to tell them. Most importantly, if they're flaky on communication, do not deal with them.

That's my mantra on online deals and I've never been burnt.

It's not pure faith, you need to build a rep for your self as a good buyer/seller. Start off only dealing with people who have a solid history.

On CACO we have a user group call "power sellers" they are people who have a proven track record for safe selling practices.

The #1 rule to go buy is if it doesn't feel right don't do it.

Also don't be surprised if people ask you to ship first. I always do with people who can't provide sufficient refs. Some people will do it and some people will not. I'm not saying you should ship first to just anyone, but if your dealing with some one with enough refs it's no big deal.
