Default Painting Subwoofer's?

what kind of paint would be needed, and does anyone know how hard it would be? i like the idea of it all, but there are a bunch of concern's as well. what paint to use, is it safe for the sub, will it crack or peel with vibration, etc.....

imo, best paint to use for anything that has the tendency to undergo extreme stress one way or another is polyester automotive paint, provided the surface is prepped properly,... lightweight, easy to apply, very forgiving when stressed

hardened enamels and lacquers will crack or flake off when stressed for extended periods of time, also adds mass that effectively augments t/s parameters

latex is also heavy and a pita to spray evenly with one coat without mottling, but will most likely not chip or peel, very flexible... would need to be thinned to atomize efficiently when sprayed for even coverage, but will take more coats to get it opaque

airbrush/gravity feed sprayer>rattle can

yea i would go with air brush also.

Just make sure you get a paint type that wont eat your cone =)

make sure u sand the surface, then clean it. Do ur thing. Let it dry. Clear coat.

Gotta be careful, though. Too much of most any paint is going to crack, peel, and most of all, add weight to the cone. That could change the specs of your sub, and you don't want that. make sure you use the bare minimum necessary to do the job. Airbrush is definitely the only way to go. Easy to spray on lightly to get a color, and you can get the clear fine enough to where it won't make any noticable difference in the mass of your cone.
