Default Searching for career in electronics...........

I am trying to find a degree that will keep me happy with a career in electronics. I'd love to be able to design and build amplifiers, design and build speakers, and/or design proper acoustical environments.

I have been looking for a degree in something like acoustical engineering, or electronic engineering. It seems like the Electronic engineering is a lot of computer based learning (like actual PC's, not audio equip.)

Electrical engineering seems like i'd be working with houses, and their fusing systems which doesnt appeal to me

does anybody have anything in this ballpark? Or does anyone do this stuff for a living anyways without an engineering degree??

I'm sure the engineering degree will help quite a bit, but you can have all the same knowledge without a degree.

If you're willing to commit the time and energy to it, you can go far for sure. Listen to these electronic engineering folks. Might help to have a background in physics too.

you do need physics for the electronics, but the main courses that you need are math based like calc and then you use that in the electronics courses.

I just really see myself designing amps and speakers, or repairing them. If I could find a degree in Eletronics Technician i'd probably jump all over it, but I don't think it exists. Pretty sure its just a certification.

The engineering scares me because I am one of those people who is not a fan of math, and obviously i'd have a TON of it....but I am 26 years old. I have 55 credit hrs, and im getting to the point where blue collar job is getting reallllllly old. I want to be happy with what I do. I don't want to just get a generic degree just to get a degree.

*** i see myself working for a big consumer electronics company whether it be car audio, or home audio....that's what i'd really like to do

what kind of work do you guys pursuing these degrees do? or what do you guys want to do with them?

I use Physics quite a bit in daily life, oddly enough. As far as math goes, I've never used anything close to Calc in a real life situation.

so there IS a degree as electronic tech!? do you go to an accredited school, or just a tech school?

i just fear going into an electronic degree, and then learning about the fusing/wiring in houses... I don't want to do that shet
