Default Airforce

Welp...

Im 18, taking classes to be a firefighter (Entry Level, Fire I and Fire II - Acadamy). After my semester and graduating high school, I want to go into EMT to become a peramedic. I would love for my job to be a paid firefighter but I know the position is a hard spot to get.

My thinking is, I can go into the Air Force as a Fire figher, get more extensive training, Haz-Mat training and many other things. 20 years in I can retire so an early retirement. Once out of the service I think I would have a good chance of being able to get onto a paid station and go for another 15 years, and retire again. Basically set for life there. I think the Airforce would also pay for EMT classes if they were not part of the training.

On top of all my training, I feel like I would get to see some interesting places like Germany, or Japan or somewhere else we have an Air Force base.

My question is, are any of you guys in the Air Force? How was boot camp? What type of questions do I need to ask in your opinion?

It won't happen. I went to college to be a firefighter, tried to get the Air Force to guarantee me a position as a firefighter, and they wouldn't do it.

People say you can get them to put it in writing, but I had ZERO luck getting any recruiter anywhere to admit to that. This was when the wars were very unpopular also. You would honestly have better luck talking to the marines for guaranteed work. They don't have as good as training/equip as the AF, but they do give you the job.

I have/had my EMT-I, FF1/2, and an associates degree in applied science. They wouldn't do it for me. I also scored fairly well on the asvab, or whatever it's called. iirc ~90

Sure you can try, but I'm telling you how my time went. They kept telling me I could pick any job at the sign in or whatever, but that was a lie and I knew it.

Im in The USAF and as far I know they will not garantee you the exact job you want unless there are openings or slots avalible. The call it the job bucket. Basically you will pick 4 jobs after you take the asvab for 4 favorites. Then your score is broke down to the categories like general, mechanical, adminstrative for example. Anyways if you wanna be security forces or health thats pretty much a garantee but in more then one case the fire fighters slots are full and you will go to basic as open general which means you get a job in basic. Usually in open general you will get security forces. If you get a waiver from the recruiter they could make sure you get fire fighter but thats only if you have a perfect record, credit and you can prove your dedication. Im in Security Forces and I love my job and they garanteed mine due to the shortage they had when I came in. If you have any thing else you wanna no just pm me. Good Luck
