Default Anyone know how much it costs to put in a shower?

We just need the pipe ran from inside the wall. We already have the tub/faucet in, but there is no shower. What would a plumber charge to do this? I have family who does tiling for a living, and they would help with that part, but no plumbers in the family.

I would think it wouldn't cost that much since it's just a pipe going up or whatever.

I've been thinking about doing that. you need to install a tub surround too.

maybe I will do a how to on it if I do.

[tub surrounds are plastic panels you install to keep the wall from getting wet.($60 to $180) Tile would be insanely expensive.]

you gotta do a shower curtain or doors too.

Tub surround? Like a membrane to keep the water out? I'm just going to tile top to bottom if that's what you mean. I'm just afraid we'll cheap out on it, and some dumb ass will do it wrong. Then we will have water leaking in the walls, and have to rip out the new tile etc.

no. membrane is not what i'm talking about

tile sucks. plastic tub surrounds are better.

I mean.. if you are trying to modify a bathroom, your money is better spent doing it right than on tile and grout which will cause you grief in the long run.

basically you are starting with walls which are not designed to hold tile, so you would have to rip out the walls and replace them with cement board and then grout in your tiles in.

so anyway. Sorry man.. I guess you could drop a couple grand into your bathroom.. if you want a shower, you can make a nice one for around $400 yourself as long as no tile is involved.

if all you're running is the shower stack off the faucet assembly, a plumber will charge you top dollar for an hour (tops) job to make it worth their while, prob between 50-125 dollars depending on complexity and fittings needed.. this is of course assuming that the wall cavities are exposed to get to the piping,... otherwise, if you want to do it yourself, its fairly cheap and just takes a little technique to solder pipe correctly,..

Werd Nick. It's actually not hard to do yourself. My dad and I built my whole bathroom from scratch. Like Sonic said, if you're planning on tile, you need the heavier duty cement board/green board, rather than traditional drywall/sheetrock. If you already have the sheetrock there, you might as well just throw a plastic tub in, and be done with it.

To get a shower, you just need hot/cold water pipes run into the wall. A torch, some solder, flux, and copper pipe is really all you need.

save yourself the trouble later and get a single piece shower/tub... dont put up those crappy plastic panels... they always leak and look like sh.t! Part of our store group sells them and they are way nice... tile around it and make it look cool, but do the single piece shower..
http://www.us.kohler.com/performance...12&nitem=cat12

tile can look really cool, and perform well... but you HAVE TO seal the grout correctly or you will have unending mold problems... use a sealer called J-35, made by a company called Dayton Superior, http://www.daytonsuperior.com/c06_Fi...er08_J-35.html
kinda spendy stuff, but it is the best out there... if you cant find any pm me and i'll shoot you a price from our store...
