Default ebay scammer caught

http://www.herald-review.com/news/lo...cc4c03286.html

a few quotes from the article

Quote:
MIAMI - Jonathan Harkness, a liquor-store regulator from Washington state, came to know "Jorge Carlos'' in late 2006, when Carlos posted a Surefire flashlight for sale on eBay using a Miami street address.
Harkness bid $90, and after an exchange of e-mails on AOL, sent Carlos a money order. But the address turned out to be a private P.O. box, the high-tech flashlight never arrived, and Harkness realized he had been ripped off.
Quote:
The payoff: Earlier this month, Nilton Rossoni, 50, a Brazilian businessman with multiple aliases who had lived in Sunny Isles Beach and Fort Lauderdale, was sentenced to 5½ years in federal prison for running one of the biggest eBay scams in history.
Quote:
Rossoni was convicted in October of hauling in $717,000 from more than 5,500 eBay buyers, by creating at least 260 different auction accounts, and using dozens of e-mail addresses with Yahoo, Google and AOL, as well as nearly 60 private postal boxes.

I took one money order payment on eBay and it was a nightmare. After I posted bad feedback on the buyer like 3-4 days later the money order finally showed up. It wasn't their fault but with paypal, it would have been a whole lot smoother.

i find it a little strange than a lot of these people who scam end up being in FL. we all know we had several on the forums that scammed plenty that were from FL.

i've had great success with postal money orders. my first ebay buy was with a money order. The one time someone tried to scam me, using a money order saved the day because I could call the local authorities and get a fraud case started. That got my money back QUICK. Matter of fact, I think that guy was in Florida....
