Default How has your MPG been effected by your system

{UPDATE ON PAGE 4!!!}
Well, after almost $1000 of troubleshooting on why my gas mileage keeps getting worse and worse like every tank it seems... I finally got the bulk of it. Now I know adding the weight of a system will drop MPG, and I expected that.. BUT, here's my scenario

2001 Ford Escape (small SUV)
1x 18" sub, 1 spare batt, 1 30-40lb amp= about 200-225lbs lets say.

not a whole lot....I was getting between 160-170 miles per TANK!! (15gal.)!!! = about 11-12mpg. This last tank I was headed towards 150mpTank!!= 9-10mpg....so I told myself I had enough, i gotta see if this 220lbs could realllllly be draggin my car down like this... sure enough... BAM.. I'm going to get another 50+ miles outta this tank!!... just from frickin $220lbs!!!!!!!

Wow that Ford Escape gets terrible MPG lol. I was getting 13mpg in my Hummer and added a 1500 pound system in the back and only dropped to 11.3.

Wow I can't believe that little bit of weight affected your car that much. That's just like riding around with a 225lb person. I probably have the same amount of weight without any effects on gas mileage.

You're not loud enough.

The Deebeez are supposed to add mileage if you have them firing back.

Seriously though, I don't really notice a huge difference. I drive a 300M. 2 9512s12s, AP3k, and a C&D 490. I haven't had a chance to do a before and after, but just looking at my meter and how often I add gas, I really don't know.

Yes weight makes a huge difference in mpg, you have to be heavier on the gas to get to speed as quick as before. Don't forget colder temps are an issue too

ALSO, are you running your tank to empty everytime you fill up?

You need to see EXACTLY how much gas is being filled up by looking on the pump, going by how big you tank is makes NO sense because you don't go into the gas station riding on fumes.

So check that out and then re-calculate.

yea i try to run it to E every time...mainly because i've been troubleshooting this for sooooooooooo long, so I keep it consistent... i usually fill up 13.8-14.2.

I just couldn't believe that 220lbs makes THAT much of a diff.... as you guys are sayin, many of you see little to no effect with that kinda weight.

and i'd like to say there is nothing else wrong with the car... spark plugs changed, MAF sensor changed, no air leaks detected, no O2 sensors are failing, fuel trim is like 1.3, so no biggie there. keepin tires filled up..... soooooooo frusterating finding out this is what the problem is though. WHen I fill up, i can see the needle drop after 2 MILES!!!!... took system out, didnt drop until I hit 20!!!

the car is running a lot better though... coasts longer, doesnt feel like it dragging that weight all the time, AND i don't need to CONSTANTLY ride the throttle
