needing help with video camera

ok, so this is what is going on. I'm tring to do a tip I learned from a mechanics forum for trouble shooting those wonderful sparatic (sp?) problems with machines I can never seem to catch. I allways see the aftermath of it. So, I want some kind of video camera I can mount on a tripod and set to record on, let's say, a hour loop. Then after the machine acts up. I can get it running again, and veiw the tape on what happened. I talked to the guy at wal-mart, but he had no clue. So hopefully someone from here can lead me the right way.

I've know you can do it with some of the more expensive cameras but not with the everyday ones.

but seriously, are you trying to use a video camera you already have or are your buying a new one?

buying a new one. I could buy one that could record several hours, and just delete it. But that can also be a hassle if I'm busy working on another machine.
