Question Explorer owners????

Alright, I have a woman offering to trade me her 1995 Eddie Bauer Explorer for my 98 Monte. Both have little dings... that's not the issue. I drove it, and it tends to hesitate and shudder a bit... her husband said he replaced 4 plugs but couldn't get to the last two, so I guess that makes sense. I just looked up some stuff online, and all of the problems make this thing seem like a shitbox, so I wanted actual owners opinions, or people who have close friends with some. Trying to decide, bc she screwed her hip up and needs something lower to the ground, thus her interest in my monte. Explorer has an unknown mileage (odometer busted), my monte is right at 213k wit 150k on the engine/trans.

Thoughts, opinions? Would love to help her out, and I'd LOVE to have the room in the back for audio purposes, but I can't afford a problematic vehicle.

I have a '00 mercury mountaineer same shit as a explorer. Anywho mine has the 5.0 pushrod motor. And it's been great in everyway except the gas mileage...but the vehicle itself is very nice! By the way, I would only buy the v8 model...

What engine and body style is it?

had my explorer for about a year now, done nothing but change oil, starts up everytime no worries, the previous owner had the tranny rebuilt at the dealership but i feel that was largely due to the fact of his son driving it all the time hammer down, I absolutely hate domestic vehicles period, actually anything but a japanese import, but I love my exploder, gets loud as hell. Plus its a ford, u could throw a paper airplane and hit a pile of parts for next to nothing if something goes out in it......and btw mine is a v6 xlt

This is a 4-door Eddie Bauer model... 4.0L v6. I'm glad I'm hearing positive things, as this will give me a LOT more room to work with as far as audio goes. I just want to make sure I don't get screwed, especially since if I do take it, the Monte goes with all of the stereo upgrades. Granted, it isn't much, but I took the time to do it.

EDIT: Guess I should mention, this would be an even trade. No money exchanged on either part.

Nice, as I like the 4-door model a lot more than the sport 2-door. The 4.0L v6 is coo, I just like the extra power from the 5.0L v8 And yes they get loud

Post some pics of the explorer if you can

I have an 01 exploder sport. I had it for 5 months now. Knock on wood, but no problems yet. It has about 107k on it. It has the 4.0 and I get around 17.5mpg. I mainly bought it for stereo comps as I heard they are easy to get loud and those people are right.

tried to upload a pic... keep gettin a little red x for some reason. It's burgundy with tan ground effects... it is missing the rear driver side fender flare, and it's dented between the rear wheelwell and the rear bumper at the bottom.
