Default interesting fuse test inside :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utnuiYzMyDQ

I have a couple of Install Bay 250 amp fuses, I don't know if there is an issue with the batch I bought, or what... but I CAN NOT BLOW THE FUSE LOL

I had one crescendo 3k at .25 ohms. pulling near 500 amps....

on ONE 250 amp fuse. The ENTIRE fuse turned black, melted the fuse holder, melted the black fuse casing around the break point, BUT THE FUSE NEVER BLEW....

Now I have a 2nd one, that turned black in the center, but fused itself back together... and will not blow either lol....

i actually hooked it to a dead short to a battery, with jumper cables, The cables starting smoking after about a min. the fuse... never went.

thats 750 amps of CCA not to mention what the dead short does to the wire, Now I'm about to go make a video of me doing this to the fuse, with my battery bank in the truck.

thats 8 80 amp an hour batteries, with a cca of around 750 iirc. as well as a single battery up front with a cca of 1000..... and 115 ah. all wired together, lets see if I can get this bad boy to pop.. but I may have found the best fuses to use, for meca style comps... with a single 250 amp fuse the way this one is going... You could run 10k rms off the thing and just melt things lol but never blow the fuse!

yeah, just goes to show, some fuses are not as "safe" as they should be.

makes me rethink my fuses.

I mean again, good for meca who use fuse ratings.. a single 250 amp fuse for my 2 3k's. on 3 15's would put me way down in the class system

and keep me legal, AND never blow the fuse.... hell if the other fuses are like this, I might buy a single 80 amp fuse LOL

run 8k rms off a single 80 amp fuse! I'd melt fuse holders if I used plastic ones, But might just make a wooden holder, and go that route, or do a wood and metal holder, so that it dissipates heat better, lol

Your giveing me ideas now. You could probably beef up fuses if you had to. Don't think its very legal though

And just the other day I was telling a guy "Man a fuse is a fuse. Just b.c. it says Stinger, Street Wires, etc, etc on it doesn't mean it's any better than any generic"

it was pulling enough current to melt the entire fuse holder, from shok industries. PLUS melt the black plastic ring off it... LOL

BUT, these tests were done dead shorting to batteries... usually if I have 250 amps of current out of my battery with no issue.

and fully charged, I can run alot of amperage

so.. just hooked them up to my truck, and ran the fuse at a dead short on 8 agm batteries, with 80 ah per battery. In theory, they should have popped the fuse the moment current was applied to the battery, but the fuse, wouldn't pop but it would melt the metal on the posts outside of the fuse area. lol.

its as if they are UN BREAKABLE LOL

fuses wont "pop" without almost twice the rated amperage, unless its a tiny fuse

this is why it becomes somewhat senseless to have fuses if they wont even protect againt a battery short, basically the worse thing that can happen with power wire
