My suggestion is - if you aren't a painter... don't attempt your first project on a vehicle.
The paint is expensive, the equipment is expensive, and if you mess it up it's worthless.
I've been painting professionally (ships) for a little over a year now and i wont attempt a vehicle.
There are plenty of "hood" paint and body shops out there that will do this for VERY cheap. Or find someone local (word of mouth) who is a painter for a larger shop, or a retired painter etc. Rent or rig a paint booth, buy the paint yourself, and have THEM spray the vehicle for you.
Another thing that cuts costs is doing the prep work yourself. Not necessarily the body work, but paint prep. If you want any panels removed, remove them. Tape the windows, trim, etc yourself.
