It doesn't make it cheap, unless you're screwing the system somehow.

they will give you a little bit of leeway with the weight which could bring the price down a little but not too much cheaper,

nope. it does cost less than walking in the post office and paying for it. {50 cents or so}

Printing labels can be done via Paypal or by setting up a shipping account with a carrier such as FedEX or UPS

my post office is run by old hags.. they weigh everything and then try to charge me extra because it's an ounce over. {then I say "I got a discount online and I'll gladly pay the online price".. and they usually just accept it}

I've also had them tell me I had to pay the shipping again because my printer messed up.. and I did so because I figured I'd just cancel the online label but the b tch had scanned my label and wouldn't cover it back up... so after it got delivered, I had to explain it to the post master {with printed verifiable proof} and he authorized the refund. {and yes, they gave me cash back}

I did it once and it was a nightmare. Pretty much everything you can do wrong I did. It was the wrong weight, I didn't sign the correct spot, I didn't declare what the goods were (shipping to Canada), etc, etc, etc. The lady at the post office was pissed. It took me like 25 minutes to get it all sorted out. Not worth the dollar I saved (but it was my fault).

I do it all the time with USPS and UPS, if you spend enough money UPS will give you a discount but otherwise it's not really any cheaper. You can fudge the weight by a couple pounds with UPS but if it's too far off they will adjust your bill.

well, mine went smoothly, but I used a flat rate box, so the weight didn't really matter.
I don't have a scale so if I want to ship it parcel, i have to go to the PO to get it weighed
