Default passive radiator help

planning on building 2 prs for a pair of sundown x8s

idea was to use zv2 cone and 2 zv2 spiders on a sa 12" basket im wondering if you guys could help me with some questions i have i was thinking about using a cardboard tube thats 3" a little over both the spider and cone cut outs so ill have to oversize those. but my plan was to use a 3" section of that tube as the former to glue everything to then get some thin full thread bar and 2 3" washers to glue to oposite sides of that tube to secure the full thread rod then id be able to add weight if needed. atleast this was my plan wondering if you guys could offer any insight as to a better way to do this or if my idea would work well.

plan is the 2 x8s with 2 12" prs goal is sq id like to be loud but still dig deep into 20s with good output

The cardboard tube is a good way to join it together, but I use PVC tube on mine since you can attach a cap to one end which makes it easy to attach a stud since you can tap directly into the PVC.

However, I think your soft parts selection is bad. You do not set up the soft parts for a PR like you do a sub. You want the softest surround and spider you can find that will support the excursion. Multiple spiders and stiff surrounds lower the efficiency of the PR, and it will not come close to the output of a port. Also a PR with a stiff suspension will have a high fs which is counter productive, unless you add a butt load of weight which aids in lowering the efficiency.

what if i ran only one spider id like to not buy more things being i already have the items in hand and i may use ur idea of the pvc that would be lighter then using 2 washers to attach the rod could you perhaps post pics of what you have so i can better understand. what size full thread rod do u use

also unsure if these are comparible but what about the cones from dcs parts bin

http://dcaudio.myshopify.com/collect...r-cones-2-5-id

i currently have 4 of the tens and the surrounds on those are alot softer then my sundown zv2 cones

You want to use a surround with plenty of excursion potential. Those tiny surrounds are not going to do a very good job when used as a PR. Excursion potential from the PR is very important. The more excursion potential it has, the more output it's capable of making.

so dont be cheap and order the best cone and spider for the job vs what i have lol

would there be any benefit to running a 2.5" cone of that same type with same 2.5" spider more spider area should result in a driver with higher xmax potential right?

Theoretically, yes but not really.

Out of the spiders that we have, our 8" x 3" progressive roll will throw farther than our 8"x 2.5" linear roll.

We also have cones with larger surrounds that have more excursion capability but they only come in 3" size.

If you want the most excursion potential, a PR built with our tall roll cone and long throw 8" progressive roll spider would be your best bet unless you want to go with a TI frame which we can use a 9.75" spider in
