Default Creating a 8" woofer out of a Fosgate hx2 Motor

Basically Im asking would you be able to do this. My speaker building knowledge is horrible so I dont really know if its possible due to the hx2 taking a 4" coil. I have nothing but the motor. Let me know and hopefully we can do some business

its hard enough to do an 8 that works with a 3" coil. efficiently, and affectively, and all, anyway. the spiders on the 8's are soooo small, that with the larger coils, they just lose all of their possible extension. most ALL of the popular subs on the market these days utilize a 2" coil, such as the Sa-8, DD 1508, etc.

You will have no excursion whatsoever when/if attempting to utilize a 4" coil on an 8" woofer. Come to think of it, I don't believe such a large coil has been used on any 10" woofers?

there are SOME custom tens using a 4" coil. and a very few amount of production units. but yes, like i said, IF using it on a 8 ISNT impossible, then its very impractical

Your best bet is to wait until Jacob comes out with the X-8 frame which will be accepting a bigger coil than previously.

I would stay away from a 4 inch coil on a 8 inch sub travel would be very limited and the efficiency would more than likely be way down. But do it. See how it comes out. The suspension is way too small on a 8 to be real great. Basically the coil would over work the suspension real fast. May be wrong though.

Yea, it ain't so great of an idea. RF did 10s with the 4" coil i think but that's crazy. If you did it, would have to be a ported box subwoofer by far.

There is a power hx2 and punch hx2, if it is a ctually punch then it is a 3" coil and i think they made 8s with those motors.
