Default 15" Home Theater sub

I have seen you have built a HT sub here and there, I would like to get a quote on the cost of a 15" HT sub, the amp I will be using is a Bash 500(so figure [email protected] ohms).

So basically looking for a low fs 15 that will work well on 500 watts, cosmetics aren't too important as it will be in a downfire ported box.

Budget?

Box is about 3.7 cubes after displacement, tuned to 26Hz using Aeroports, but from what I have read HT subs like larger boxes than there Car Audio Counterparts, so if thats the case, I have 2 sheets of MDF in my shed I can use to build a larger box.

I would like to keep the cost around $200 or less, but thats not set in stone.

If a 12" would work better in the box I currently have, then I could go that route as well.

Hopefully it is near your budget but if David can build you something with similar specs as a Soundsplinter RL-p, then it could be built into an awesome home theater sub.

[ SoundSplinter Subwoofers - RL-p 15" Subwoofer Information ]

As far as tuning goes, I consider 26 too high for a dedicated home theater sub. Also, you will need an amp with a subsonic filter pretty high as well.

For my home theater, I use sealed enclosures and a pro amp (Behringer EP-2500). No subsonic filter (not needed) and a parametric EQ (Behringer Feedback Destroyer) to flatten the in-room response down to 17hz and usable output down to about 14hz.

I can easily drop the tuning, with the aeroports, any input on box sizes, do they you want a box on the larger side or smaller side etc.....

Box size really depends on your final goals. There are guys at AVS that put an RL-p in a 12 cubic foot box tuned to 10hz. You could probably go as small as 4 cubic feet if needed.

What about your amp? Make? Model?

IMO, we don't need to go as large as an RL-P to get the job done here, especially considering the power level, and the enclosure being built around the sub. Our new 2011 Platform 1 motor would work very well for this.

For a 15"... 4ft would do, but you'd be better at 6ft if you have the space to lose. I'll need to know where you want to go on the size before I build the sub though.

I'd tune this sub to 18-20hz if it were mine.

In my HT setup, I use (2) 15's (similar to what we'll make for you) with (4) 18" PR's, 8cuft tuned to 18hz. Just FYI.
