Default 08 scion tc 275amp singer

Well just got done installing my singer alt and the idle voltage is just around 12.2, tapping the gas a bit ups the voltage to 13+, mailed mike about it, wonder if he can machine a smaller pully as my tc has the under drive crank pully which might be effecting the voltage

an underdrive crank pulley will 100% cause problems with a high output alt. mike will be able to answer your question on if he can make a smaller pulley or not. most of the time he ships the alt with the smallest pulley possible, however.

edit: what was the change in crank pulley diameter? also, you better put your car on a battery charger or somethin. 12.2 means your batt(s) are getting low.

i can't seem to find actual diameters on google other than most underdrive pulleys are 20% smaller.

so if you went from a 3'' stock to a 2.4 on the crank pulley and your alt has a 1.7" pulley your idle alt rpm would go from 1411 to 1129. I'm assuming a 800 rpm idle.

you'd need a 1.35 alt pulley to get your alt speed back up to a 1400 idle, which 1.35 isn't possible. there wouldn't be enough metal there to support any belt wrap.

I'd be taking that underdrive crank pulley off asap.

Yeah I'm considering finding a lightweight crank pulley of stock diameter, on the original alt I had the 20% overdrive alt pulley assuming it would balance out the lack of rotation from the crank

On the original alt you could do that as it didn't take as many alt rpm to kick in.

The problem with that is with high output alts the low alternator rpm output is sacrificed for more peak output at higher alt rpms. A overdrive pulley is used by default to counteract the weak output at idle by spinning the alt faster.

Odd's are you have a 1.7'' diameter pulley on there now, as thats generally what we ship. Thats as small as we can get our hands on as far as i know. If there is something smaller it wont be much, maybe 1.6-1.65. Going any smaller youd need to use something stronger than hardened steel, which you'd come out cheaper putting a turbo kit on your car.

Ok so a so a solution is clearly swap back to stock crank pulley or find a replacement crank pulley of equal diameter to stock that's light weight which isn't an issue honestly as more about being loud vs speed

Sounds about right, stock crank pulley back it and I'm up to 13.5v at idle looks like ill be needing a third battery for bassing at idle as I drop between 12.5-12.9 at idle

Opinions I'm thinking a second d3100 in the rear shoud resolve this

well thats better.

what are your batteries resting at? your voltage might still be a bit low if they got drained down from not having idle output.
