The case is not the problem almost any import alt will fit I would go to the junkyard and get a nissan quest alternator which depending on the year are 130 amps. I'm pretty sure it's because it's a dodge and has an external voltage regulator. So voltage is controlled by your pcm. Me I would still get it from the junkyard they're like 20-30 bucks only problem is your battery light will be on.

Come to think of it is externally regulated you can get one of a Durango or liberty those are like 180 amps. Same great 20-30 bucks at least around here

I can help you with external regulation if need be. You can use a transpo c8313 adjustable regulator with any alternator designed for the Neon (you'll probably get a battery light though). I use it in my '00 Neon.

I had a 2000 ES, and I ran an Audiopipe AP3K off the stock alt, battery, a single run of Knu Kolossus OFC 1/0 and a single 110ah group 31 deep cycle. I only dropped to 12.5 at full tilt on tones. If you want to stick with the stock case, find an 01 PT Cruiser, as they are 120 amp stock and are the same mounting.

I'm late to the party but was searching 'cruiser' as thinking about buying a PT Cruiser and came across this.
Anyways like said above you can use an external regulator like said above, Google one for an old 80s ram, they had them on the firewall and a couple companies made them adjustable, up to 16v even! Also does that use the Nippendenso alt with the mounts directly across from each other? If so you can grab a used alt of an early 2000s Durango 5.9 with firetruck package, they had a 160a alt. Use Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market should be like $50.
Peace

The mounts are 180 degrees apart and 6.6" from center to center of the mounting holes.

Sounds like the one, I can't measure mine right now, I have a spare in storage, I had one on an intrepid 3.3, search around some neon forums and the like, that bolt pattern alt fits about every chrysler engine ever made, I put one on a turbo 2.2/2.5, on a 4.0 jeep, I know they fit the first gen neons etc. Research a lil bit
