Default Just a definition please....

I've loked at about 300 old topics, but I've yet to find a simple, straight-forward answer.... So, if someone would take a few moments.

Describe the 'sound quality' in relation to a subwoofer(below 60Hz):

I have a working knowledge of audio definitions, but not relating to a subwoofer. Mid-bass, midrange, and tweeters are easy to describe, but not so much the lowest end.

This is probably the wrong question, but:

The sub I own is a "__________________", and I purchased for the following qualities that were discribed in the above question.

sound quality in relation to 60hz and below will be exactly the same as it would be for 61hz and above, but for a different frequency range......

If you have working "knowledge" of midbass/midrange/tweeters/etc, you should have knowledge in regards to subwoofers because each item has its own respective range of performance. A driver designed to have great "SQ" between 2k and 5khz will sound great for anything that produces sound in that frequency range...... the same goes for drivers designed for other frequencies.

As far as SQ goes, its all in the eye (or ears i guess) of the beholder.

What are you asking? There are SO many factors that effect sound.... driver materials, install materials being used, environment of the install, tuning, processing, source......

The sound quality of the subwoofer is made up of these:
Transparency
music reproduction with as little distortion/coloring as possible
speed
tonal accuracy

It should be able to play all freq dictated to the subwoofer with out it sounding like an actual speaker. It should be natural and just seem to play from where you have your sound stage located.
9/10 times most people will assume that a sq system doesn't even have a subwoofer.

No mechanical noise. Soft parts and motor coupled well for speed without slop. Linearity.

But I would certainly like to hear your take on it

I agree with this. [Please note that I do not have a SQ system in my car, but I have extensive experience with home audio SQ installs]
