Default What's the best processor for me?

Okay, so I'm sure this has been beaten to death here, but I'm looking for opinions and advice on my mini-SQ build.

07 Cadillac CTS is the vehicle. The build includes:

Alpine AVIC-F900BT
Audison LRx 1.400
Audison LRx 4.300
Hertz HSK 165
Hertz HCX 130
Sundown SA-12 D2 in a sealed box

I'm not going for high-dollar competition stuff, just a good daily system, clean and plenty loud enough for me.

The problem I'm having is that figuring out what processor will make me happy has been a real headache. I've been researching here, DIYMA, caraudio.com, and other places, and I've seen a lot of A/B stuff among the audiophiles, but still haven't found an answer.

I want a processor that will let me flatten the HU's natural curve, time correct, let me set a decent stage up front but allow me to switch settings for passengers.

I understand that there will be a lot of tweaking no matter what I get, but I want a DSP that will allow "set and forget" for the most part - once I get it tuned where I want, I want to forget it's there - using the HU's volume control and settings, etc. That's a real dealbreaker for me - I'm going for a stock appearance and don't need more buttons and knobs up front.

I'm happy with the PXE-H660's price point, but I'm willing to put up the $$ for a used MS-8, BitOne, or 360 if they'll better meet my needs.

So what do you all think, for my setup, would be my best bet?

i dont see how using audison and hertz is" not going for high dollar comp stuff"
last time i checked audison and hertz were both crazy expensive.. sounds like a winner to me
seeing how your already sticking with the audison and hertz theme just get the bit one

Judging from what u want to do and the fact that u have rear speakers I'd go with the ms-8. I was in the same boat and went with the ms-8 and have been pretty happy with it.

The only settings u can really mess with are the eq and the crossovers but it does a pretty good job of doing the rest. I personally like to do a little more tweaking but I've been ok without it. It sounds like u might not have too much knowledge in tuning so it shouldn't be a big problem for u. If u had a center channel it'd be even better.

Also all dsp's have they're quirks so do your research on each model carefully. Some issues you can probably live with and others will make you want to rip it out of your car.

Yeah, I'm sure there will be pros and cons to each, and I AM doing research - lots and lots, specifically on the Alpine PXE-H660, RF 360, JBL MS-8, Audison BitOne, and Helix P-DSP. I'm even looking at the Arc Audio PS8, though that's probably going to stay out of my range until they've met market demand.

Yet reading specs isn't really comparable to real-life experience and ease of use. If I go purely by the manufacturer's claims, each is a god-send. If I go by what I've found so far on the 'net, each one is either the best DSP around or a huge waste of time.

I guess I'm just asking what people here - some very knowlegable folks - think would be best for me to meet my expectations.

For the record, currently I'm leaning towards the MS-8.

The ms8 has quite a few issues. The infamous airplane noise, weak input connection on the display cable and the the display itself. I personally love it but imo the minor issues sometimes made me want to chuck it. The airplane noise has ruined a lot of people's speakers.

Good higher-end mids/high stuff. Then a completely non SQ oriented sub, in a sealed box.

I would definitely rethink the substage if you are going to go to that effort for SQ.

With that equipment and a decent install, time alignment and crossover capabilities are going to much more valuable than any EQ function. Have you checked out the minidsp? It's by far a more DIY product, but the features are basically limitless.

Home | miniDSP

I should add that I haven't used one, but given a chance it would be my top choice.

You say that you are going for a "stock" appearance, and I
'm wondering if you've considered switching up to a IVA-W505 and PXA-H701, giving you control of the processor through the headunit. I use the IVA-W505 with the PXA-H100 and absolutely love the functionality of the control. I'm also adding the same head unit with the PXA-H701 to my Civic as soon as it all comes together. I'm not the biggest fan of the Imprint results from the software, but the manual control is great and allows 6 presets for processor settings.

I should point out that I'm not going to be trying to compete or anything with this car - so the "perfect" SQ setup isn't as much a priority as having a robust, good-sounding system that *can* make the most of the 900~ish watts the 1.400 puts out. After quite a bit of research I ruled out a number of SQ subs because the only ones I'm finding that really do what I want are out of my preferred price range of sub-$300.

The sealed box has more to do with the styles of music I listen to than anything - lots of metal, lots of jazz, with random other genres mixed in. I want a tighter response, and from the people I've spoken with in person and online, a sealed enclosure seems more fitted to me. If you have information contrary to that, by all means please share!

Don't hesitate to include links and stuff - I'm honestly looking for the best solution in the price/quality/reliability mix, and I'm not set on anything just yet, since I haven't bought the sub stage.

I'll look into the miniDSP - it *does* look pretty interesting.

I'm pretty set with the AVIC-F900BT - mostly because I already have it, lol. I got a really good deal locally on CL for it, and I loved my AVIC-D3 from a few years ago in my Magnum. Maybe, possibly, in the future I'll upgrade, but for now I'm pretty set with it.
