Default Going active. What else do I need?

So I have decided to say screw it and attempt the active 2 way setup.

Done a little research and have decided to go with what was recommended, a pair of Vifa 1" silk dome tweeters and a pair of silver flute 5.25" mids. Both are 4 ohm.

Amp will be a older Memphis 80x4 and the deck is the Kenwood KDC-BT952HD.

I know I am most likely going to need a 2 way active crossover, but where do I start when looking for one?

I know I have to find crossover points for the tweeters and mids as well, but need advice on where to start with those also.

Have the headunit installed, mids an tweets ordered, and will be picking the amp up Saturday.

Most of your "Active" work should be done through your head unit ...
Does your headunit have these capabilities ?? if not, you may be looking into buying a processor of some sort ...

You will need to cut your bottom end of your tweeters, and cut the top end and bottom end of your midrange drivers ...

Do you have an idea on what your crosss over points are ??

I'm gonna cross the tweeters from 1khz on up and the mids 80 to somewhere near the beginning of the tweeters(hopefully).

Still need to research a bit on that though.

My deck had a few tuning options but isn't the best. Got it for crackhead cheap tho and would really like to keep it.

If you're just looking for a 2 way processor for your mids, that makes life easier, but I think most processors out there give you 3 way capability, so you may as well run your sub signal through there as well. I had an ARC IDX and it was great (not cheap, but definitely nice).

As for crossover frequencies and such, just mess around with stuff till it sounds good to you. That's what I did, and it worked well. Since you've got ballpark numbers, start there (you may want to up the tweeter low end frequency by a decent bit to somewhere in the 2-3khz range, but that will depend on your drivers). Start with low power, then tweak the frequencies and add power and re-tweak. I had my IDX in the center console so I could constantly play with the crossovers while I was driving to better suite the songs I was listening to (hear a new song and it's got a different output curve than the previous one, so I'd mess with the crossovers and such).

I most likely will be picking up a mini dsp 2x4 as well as recommended. Will have to learn how to use it, but shouldn't be to hard.

I have my dash set up with a passive 5.25" component set ... Tweeters cut at 2600 htz and the 5.25s fullrange and cut on the low end around 120 htz ... then I have 6.5" midbass drivers in my doors active. I'm cutting the top end around 200 htz and the bottom end around 50 htz ...

Am I just digging a hole cuz I'm more confused now than I was 10 minutes ago.

I understand the need to cross everything different, but without my deck being active capable, what do I need to go active is what I was looking for.

4 channels for your front stage ... 2 for the L/R tweeters, and 2 for the L/R Midrange drivers ...

For starters ... this is what every "Entry level Active setup" should have, or something similar ...

I have that. But it's front and rear. Was gonna run the tweeters on the front channels and mids on the rear channels of the amp.
