Default Another new SQ setup!

Hey guys, I'm starting another new SQ build. The vehicle is a 2011 Ford F-250 Super duty. I have a Pioneer DEH-80PRS for the head unit, a Zapco ST1 sub amp to power a SD-2 10", a set of Tantric sounds HD components in custom pods in the doors, and am running two old school Zapco Studio 50 amps on the component set.

First off the sub on that amp seem to be a perfect match for each other. Made in heaven!

The problem I'm finding is that it seems the components are drastically under powered. I am thinking about swapping out the amps for a bigger Zapco ie.: ST-4X or ST-4D or a Arc Audio XXD 4080. My local shop is trying to talk me into a focal FPP-4100.

Do any of you have any experience with these amps? If so could you chime in and let me know about your experience with them.

Sincerely,
DVNoakes.

I may not be the right person to ask, but I ran that amp briefly on a set of Focal Polyglass 6.5 components. I found it to be surprisingly un-Focal in the sound quality. In fact, I reverted to using a JL 300/4 that the Focal unit was supposed to replace, and never looked back.

Either Arc or Zapco would be a considerably better choice , IMHO, but your (or anyone else's) mileage may vary.

Thanks for the response! I appreciate it! I am actually thinking about getting an Orion XTR series amp now. Price point is exceptional for the quality and power output. I am hoping the quality is on par or at least close to that of the Arc Audio and Zapco brands.

why not a masconi amp? or a Audio Systems amplifier(masconi sub brand) both are SQ and ultra SQ oriented. that aside, masconi was the used by the 2011 SQ world champ iirc.

seems audiosystems is now gladen.

Mosconi is not a cheap product, and may not appeal to everyone. While I have not heard them, I'm sure the quality is unmatched. But $1200 for a 400 watt amp is steep.

If you don't mind going used, Phoenix Gold Ti or ZX series had a good sound, IMO. Depending on how much power is needed, JL 300/4 or 450/4 are excellent choices. I would not recommend having them close to the sub enclosure, since the v1s tend to have iffy connections between main board and the crossover module. Easy repair, but a PITA. I really like the solid RCA connections and the versatile crossovers on the Slash series. The sound is quite good.

Aside from being more expensive than a lot of (arguably) comparable products, JL makes a very decent product. I have had nothing but great results, and my Focal experience reaffirmed it.

Don't bother running a super high end amp on those comps. The arc or zapco will be fine.

I used to have the JL HD600/4 in my 2012 Veloster and ended up giving it away to the bosses kid. I swapped it out for an Audison LRx series 4 channel. It was a huge improvement in quality. The JL wasn't nearly as acurate or detailed as the older slash series.

In this new build I would put a slash series in it without hesitation if I had the room. I am going to put the amps under the front seats and swap out the center console/Jump seat/arm rest and make it a sub cabinet/arm rest.

I am interested in Mosconi products by reputation alone, on that note I am also interested in brax amplifiers. but have never heard them personally and I have no idea where to find a dealer for them. Even if I could find a dealer for those products I'm not sure I would find them affordable.

Sincerely,
DNoakes.

I second the slash series amp suggestions. I'm running a 300/4 on my Hertz 6.5's and my last install was 2 1000/1's on 2 13w7's

But I don't think they are as fragile as u make them sound.. I had all my slash amps mounted right to me enclosure and never had an issue

Original Slash series had issues with separating crossover boards. The boards were only secured to the main board with multi-pin connectors. Slash V2 series had new design of internal endcap surfaces to retain the boards. It's not how I make them sound. It is a fact.

I have first gen 300/4 in the garage now that fried channel four due to an intermittent connection on the crossover module. This will be the second time it is going back to JL for the same repair. The replacement thatis now in my car is a v2.
