Default SQ newb - advice needed

I am currently revamping my stock 6 speaker Bose system in my 2006 2500hd crew cab.

I recently purchased http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X350...00BHS&skipvs=T

I will also be purchasing http://subthump.com/product_info.php...products_id=57 to house (2) 10" subs.

So far my research prior to this post has led me towards Polk 6.5 components in the front, and 2 ways in the rear. I am more fond of putting components in both front and rear myself so...

I am here looking for speaker/sub/amp advice that will give me decent SQ without breaking the bank. My nephew is pushing Kicker on me, but I know there is better out there.

I don't need competition components, but I do like to crank up some Clutch and would like it to be comparable to my Klipsch home system lol.

I really wish I would have saved my old school Alpine setup

Have any kind of an idea as far as a budget? Are you wanting to retain stock speaker sizes and locations? Kicker is ok, but yes there is much better to be had.

I'd recommend no rear speakers. Invest in a better front stage.. Rears kill imaging.

If your reference is a Klipsch HT setup, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Lol.

I assume you plan to run everything from the HU? Or can you retain the OEM amp with that HU?

Kicker... no.

The Polk MM6501's are a great bang for the buck set. But also look at the JBL ms62c's. Tantric components are comparably priced and have a matching coaxial set. That will be ~ $375 for both sets. I run the Tantrics in my CRX and they're great.

For "true" SQ, most don't even run rear speakers, but I suspect you're not looking for a competition style setup and you probably care whether your rear passengers can hear the music and/or might want that rear fill for movies, maybe? So, if you want rears, get them.

I was hoping to keep the complete system to under $1500. So far I have $500 invested in the head unit, sub box, and the harness for steering wheel controls. So that leaves me 1k for the rest. I would like to retain my original speaker locations other than maybe adding tweeter is the rear if I go component sets front and back.

I was hoping to keep rears just for the dvd player and kids in the back seat

Yeah, I understand I will not come close to what my home setup is , but I will spend a few more dollars to get great sound with no distortion.

I am currently running my stock amp with the HU, but it has to go. From my research the amp filters the music to accommodate the cheap stock Blose speakers. Which at this point leaves a very muddled sound. I thought it was the stock speakers, but upon swapping out the speakers with my nephews kickers the sound quality is still not there.

I will be doing this in stages over the course of a few weeks. I do plan on adding some power with an amp or 2. I would like to be able to pump 200wt of clean sound for those days I need stress relief

In my humble opinion your off on the wrong foot already for a true SQ set up. The pioneer deck is not 4 volt out put, kicker hasn't made anything SQ for years. The polks are mediocre at best. It's a good thing you joined before you blow your wad! Brands like rainbow and hertz would be considered SQ. Take a deep breath and hold on to your monies for a few and start reading up on SQ before you blow your wad! The new tantric, AD designs and CT sounds components look to be very promising SQ sets! All have good price points. I also would post here for a box design. Typically pre fab boxes are one size fits all which might be good for one but not for all. Many of the brands and companies that hang on CACO have excellent products and amazing deals, many have pre sales that you can only find out about on forums. There are also lots of great products that pop up on the classified section as well. I think it would be worth your time to wait for the deals that pop up here to come along

Hmm, well unfortunately the HU is here to stay for a while. Until my wife gets a new vehicle and I can install it for her. I bought it mostly due to the features

As for the sub box... I have searched a ton for an under the seat box that fits without having to remove support bars and this is the only one I have seen to date. It was recommended by a guy that also visits the same diesel forums I do who also did not want to cut any supports. Maybe someone here can come up with an alternate solution.

I am also not familiar with the SQ components you have mentioned. I did look at the tantric component set and they fall within my price line I will have to search out the other 2 mentioned.

Thanks!

Maybe I should have asked if you were going to compete in SQ or you want something nice that sounds good. My experience with polks have been fired tweets. Polks are good if you listen to Kenny G but if you like to crank it up they'er not the way to go. Your head unit is cool, you were a few models away from the high output rca's. If I was going to compete in SQ again I would get the Pioneer DEH-80PRS. I would also run 3 way components all active xovers. I would use a audio control 3 way xover and a separate amp to everything. My SQ sytem had Illusion 8 carbons with Diamond hex's. I ran a DD 2500 12 in ported box. The judges are always impressed with exotic set ups like mine was back in the day. I ran US acoustics amps made by ZED. I also scored points for have all wiring and power in Esoteric which was carnelian and grey made by street wires. Many brands have been reduced to crap(Diamond) but there are a slew of new companies that are making or having there crap made with nice features and price points. All of which you will find here.
Start a new post in "box request". I like Bucks high out put enclosures my self or you could ask PWK on SMD forum and hope he likes your request and doesn't toss it LOL. You should get some responses at least.
Your deck isn't bad it's just no better than a 100 dollar deck. I always look for a low RCA impedence and 4 volt or higher. The higher end decks have a feature where you can turn off the decks internal amp to let deck run cooler there for having less distortion.
Any way welcome and it's a good thing you are asking questions that's the only way you'll find out what the heck your doing right or wrong Good luck I hope I haven't discouraged you?
